The TORRENS games have kicked off with an exciting tournament of tug of war!
We have seen great effort, great teams and good sportsmanship. Very impressive!

First mentions to our junior teams:
- THE MINIONS
- TEAM BOB
and all our small athletes who put in amazing effort!

In the title division, we had 7 teams fight it out for the first place. We have seen big upsets, a sideways tug-of-war(???) and a great comeback story.

But ultimately, the title this year goes to TEAM BROKEN, Joel, Dylan, Dean and Lizard!

They'll have the trophy today and then it will be prominently displayed at the park so you can all think of how you will win it back next year.

TOMORROW - around lunchtime, we will host the 2-legged race, the fridge to fridge for all ages. Looking forward to seeing you all.

Hey everyone!

The T.O.R.R.E.N.S .games are kicking off tomorrow afternoon!
I know some of you are keen to join, but haven't signed up yet, so we will be running a reduced version, but take teams on the day.

Merry Christmas everybody!
I hope by now you are all sitting on the sofa, bellies full and jolly!

Santa also visited the park:
We now have bottle recycling!
Torrens has teamed up with re-cycling to participate in the return and earn scheme and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
When you come up to the park later, you will see these new "bottle bins". Right now at the Pavilion and up the back with the visitor parking.(Over time we will deploy more throughout the park)

How does it work? The containers can take:
- Soft drink bottles
- Aluminium cans
- Beer bottles
- Plastic Bottles up to 3L

(Basically any bottle with a return and earn participation)

As the containers fill up, the team from re-cycle collects the bags and shares some of the return and earn money.
We will keep those proceeds in a separate fund. This money then goes back into more events, food carts or perhaps to a charity voted on by the park. I'm keen to hear your thoughts.
(And as this is all pretty new, we will have to see how successful this project turns out to be)

Some housekeeping:
We still collect your rubbish daily. If the container is too far, please try and keep recyclable bottles separate so that we can put them in the return containers, rather than add to the regular landfill.
It is also important not to put any food waste in there. Both for the containers to be accepted at the recycling depot and to avoid critters.
If you notice any issues, please let us know immediately, so we can deal with it.

Hello everyone,

I'm sure we are all busy attending Christmas parties and fighting our way through last-minute shopping and prep for the holidays.

Don't forget to sign up your team for
The Official Riverbank Recreational ENd-of-year Showdown (T.O.R.R.E.N.S.)

and participate in the games this new year's eve!

Signing up your team will help me organize the roster and make sure we have a balanced event.

I am especially looking for signups for both volleyball and the - first of it's kind - leaf blower ballet! (Or leaf blower soccer, to be more clear.)

But we can also take sign-ups and impromptu teams on the day for the tug-of-war, the 3-legged fridge-to-fridge and putt-putt plays.

You can sign up by going to our website, clicking on "NYE Page" and entering the password sent to you via email last month.

ANZAC DAY - Memories, Friendships and life on the river

The weather couldn't stop us from having a great Anzac Day here at Torrens.
And although the occasion was a sad one, it was great to see so many members of the park - past and present - come together to commemorate Michelle and celebrate the times we have together on the river.

And of course to play some two-up! Great turn out! (I broke even, how about you?)
Many thanks to Arie for keeping the annual two-up going and nicely coercing everyone into having fun! The pavilion was packed all day!
