EH Holdens, Vauxhalls and Bedford Trucks at the Dandenong assembly plant in Victoria Australia in 1964.

The Dandenong body and assembly plant opened in 1956 at a cost of nearly £4.5 million pounds with the capacity to build 152 bodies and assemble 168 vehicles a day which was a first in Victoria.

It was the fourth largest GMH assembly plant in Australia which employed more than 3,480 people.

In 1962 the millionth Holden, a gold EJ Premier, was built at Dandenong and in 1969, the two millionth Holden, a gold HK Brougham, was built.

Then in 1981 the four millionth Holden, a VC Commodore SL/E, was produced, and in 1982 the first Holden front-wheel drive model, the JB Camira sedan, was produced.

In 1986, a joint venture turned it into the sole plant for Toyota Corolla and Holden Nova production.

The deal between GMH and Toyota dissolved and in 1991 and the plant was closed down, but some assembly operations continued at Dandenong until 1994.
