2008 Isuzu NPR in this week with the 5.2 4HK1 engine.
Having a nightmare of a time with the DPF, limp mode, crazy fuel usage and having to pull over and let it regen on the side of the road constantly, the owner finally cracked the sh*ts and gave me a call to get it sorted once and for all.

Good old Hilux map sensor filter strikes again!

Bruce dropped his 2015 N70 Hilux in with a complaint that it was driving like a slug after having the engine replaced not long ago. After removing the top engine cover it was pretty obvious where the issue was...the map sensor hose had popped off the map sensor filter. This is an all too common issue with any vehicle with a 1KD, the map sensor filter will either crack or the hose gets oil soaked and pops off. Best case scenario you lose power and the car feels gutless, worst case scenario the ECU isn't seeing the correct boost levels and tries to compensate by closing the veins in the turbo to increase boost, which will then overspeed the turbo and kill it. Luckily this Ute was caught before the turbo died, so the fix was simple, straight vacuum hose from the port on the intake to the map sensor. We do this to every 1KD that comes through the shop whether it's in for a tune, service or rego check, just to keep these things alive.

Once that was sorted, we gave it a custom tune to suit towing, gaining a massive 55kw and 210nm compared to when it first rolled into the shop!

Pete bought his newly acquired 2012 200 series past the shop for a bit of a tweak. We tuned this 200 back in 2018 for the previous owner, before trans tuning on them was even a thing. Pete had just fitted a full turbo back exhaust system and a Donaldson airbox so wanted it checked over and tuned to suit the new mods. Throwing it on the Dyno saw some alright numbers, but definitely room for improvement.

The tuning game is constantly evolving. We are always discovering new ways to tune, finding new maps and learning what works and what doesn't, so retuning a vehicle that has be tuned 5/8/10 years ago will more often than not see a decent improvement, and this 200 is a good example of that.

Squeezing another 34hp and 87nm of torque out of it, aswell as tuning the trans made this rig drive so much better!

V6 Amaroks have got to be the best bang-for-buck in the tuning department out of all the dualcab utes out there I reckon. With nothing but a custom remap and some exhaust mods, this basic example here is now punching out 203kw and 642nm to all 4 wheels. In stock form they go alright, but with a tune up their guts it's a whole another level! You want this level of performance out of your Rok, aswell as a much more cost effective way to fix those pesky dpf issues, you know how to find me! 😎

🚗 Caleb’s 79 Series Landcruiser, DPF Drama Sorted! 💨

Caleb brought his recently purchased 79 Series LandCruiser into the shop after having issues with his DPF. According to the previous owner it had been tuned, but not much information known other than that. Using our scan tool and reading live data, we found a failed EGT sensor and things only got more interesting from there 👀

When we removed the sensor, we discovered it had completely melted. Pulling the exhaust apart revealed the DPF had also melted and collapsed, most likely the result of a poor tune done by the previous owner.

✅ We fixed the damaged DPF
✅ Flashed the ECU back to factory stock and updated it to the latest software
✅ Then gave it our custom dyno tune to unlock safe, reliable power

💪 The results?
🔥 +43 HP and +269 Nm over standard!

Now Caleb’s Cruiser runs better than ever, more power, smoother response, and no more limp mode .

It's happening! Full remapping of the factory ECU in the Next-Gen V6 Diesels is here! Development is in full swing with some awesome results after a few hours on the dyno the past two days.

With the only mods being a 3in dpf back exhaust, super smooth response and a good decrease in lag, they really wake up in the midrange and top end as well. Only a 2psi increase in boost and a sprinkle of fuel and some torque management trickery netting some really nice gains. More dyno time over the coming weeks as well as road testing and logging should see further improvements!
Exhaust system and intercooler upgrades will be available soon, which will really help these things along.

Mick made the drive over to me from Coleambally to fix a few issues on his 2012 Hilux. After having it tuned in a paddock a while ago, the results left a bit to be desired. Blowing black smoke on acceleration, injector knock that came and went and just not that impressive drivability. After doing an intake clean and replacing the injectors didn't improve the situation. The call was then made to us to cast our eyes over the ute and see what the go was. A quick look under the bonnet and we saw some obvious issues, major boost leak from the hot side of the intercooler and a cracked map sensor filter wasn't helping the cause.
Running it up on the dyno indicated even more issues. Running a crazy 24psi on a stock 1kd turbo is wild and even wilder is the fact that it was still alive. The intercooler was replaced with a new unit and split map sensor filter thrown in the bin. Vacuum hose was placed from the manifold to the map sensor (something I do to every 1kd that comes through the shop). Flashing the ecu back to stock resulted in power, torque, boost and afrs that are to be expected, so everything was OK mechanically. From there, I custom tuned the ECU, targeting a much more sensible 20psi and a nice smooth 17.5-18 afrs, making another 10kw and 30nm more torque than the previous tune, holding that power for longer with zero smoke or injector rattle!

A paddock is no place to tune a vehicle!

Dylan dropped his 2012 N70 Hilux in this week to sort some driveability issues. After fitting an aftermarket airbox recently, it turned into a slug and lost a bunch of power. This is something we see pretty regularly. People putting in a fancy looking airbox and big snorkel and immediately losing power and driveability. Most airbox manufacturers don't size the MAF pipe correctly, which throws out the readings and can cause limp mode and poor performance. To rectify this we have to scale the MAF to suit in the ecu to read correctly. While it was here we also ripped the intake manifold off and gave it a high pressure blast and ultrasonic clean bringing it up like brand new. Then backed it onto the rollers and custom tuned the ecu to suit. Rolling in with the stock tune and airbox it made an absolutely dismal 46kw and 184nm through the 33in tyres. With the MAF scaled correctly stock power was a typical 90kw and 300nm. With a nice tune to suit, 116kw and 456nm graced the screen before we started to see a bit of clutch slip. Driveability is so much better with great, smooth power delivery!
