TOYOTA LANDCRUISER 79 SERIES | MODESTA BC-05 CERAMIC COATING

Before You Choose a Ceramic Coating, Compare the Process, Not Just the Price.

With just 10,000km on the clock, this 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series arrived at Custom Car Care Wagga for extensive paint correction and long-term protection with Modesta BC-05 Advanced Water-Repellent Glass Coating.

Low kilometres doesn't guarantee flawless paintwork and applying a ceramic coating over improperly prepared paint won't correct existing defects or ensure proper adhesion.

Instead, those imperfections remain beneath the coating, while inadequate surface preparation can compromise its long-term performance.

THE PREPARATION

Following a thorough decontamination wash and careful masking, the LandCruiser's bodywork and painted toolboxes underwent three stages of machine paint correction:

- Stage 1 – Rotary Wool Cutting to address existing paint defects.
- Stage 2 – Dual Action Micro-Wool Polishing to refine the finish and remove cutting marks.
- Stage 3 – Dual Action Foam Pad Finishing to maximise gloss, depth and clarity.

Once corrected, the vehicle received a second wash and degreasing process, to remove polishing residues and prepare the surface for proper coating adhesion.

THE MODESTA BC-05 INSTALLATION

Modesta P-01A Coating Primer was applied before installing BC-05 Advanced Water-Repellent Glass Coating.

Featuring an advanced three-dimensional molecular structure, BC-05 delivers exceptional colour depth, a rich wet-look finish, strong hydrophobic performance and long-term resistance to environmental contamination.

The wheel faces also received BC-05 protection, followed by controlled infrared heat curing to activate the coating's hardening process.

WHY THE PROCESS MATTERS

There's a considerable difference between a quick polish and same-day ceramic coating application and investing several days in proper paint correction, meticulous surface preparation, premium coating installation and infrared curing.

Both might be advertised as ceramic coating packages, but the workmanship, preparation and processes can be vastly different.

2026 Isuzu MU-X X-Terrain | Slate Grey Metallic | Full Modesta Treatment

Another one from the backlog and I’m committing to getting more of these jobs up and showing the level of preparation, detail and process that goes into every ceramic coating treatment we do.

This brand-new MU-X X-Terrain came to us before our customer even took delivery from Wagga Motors, allowing us to carry out the new-car preparation, refinement and complete Modesta protection from the outset.

A big thanks to Michael and the team at Wagga Isuzu for helping with the logistics and making it easy for their customer to have the vehicle brought straight to us for the work before delivery.

As always, new doesn’t mean perfect.

With just 32km on the odometer, the Slate Grey Metallic paintwork already required paint correction and refinement to remove swirl marks introduced during the new-car shipping and handling process and bring the finish up to the standard we wanted.

All exterior surfaces were also thoroughly deep cleaned and prepared to remove adhesive residue, grime and other contamination that could inhibit the proper bonding of the coatings.

The wheels were removed from the vehicle so they could be properly cleaned, prepared and ceramic coated before being refitted.

The objective isn't simply to put a ceramic coating over a new vehicle.

It's to properly prepare and refine the finish first - correcting the defects, improving the clarity, depth and gloss of the paintwork, and ensuring every surface is properly prepared before protecting that result with Modesta.

2026 Audi S3 - Full Modesta Treatment 💛

It’s been a little quiet on our socials lately - our first post since July!

The workshop certainly hasn’t been quiet though. It’s been an incredibly busy winter and we’re now taking bookings for the last week of October.

I still love the work as much as ever. These days I’d just rather put my time into the cars, get them finished properly and get home to my wife and young kids than stay back putting social media posts together. So sometimes the photos have to wait!

We’ve also got some really big transformations waiting to be shared because it’s certainly not just new cars being worked on here. We’ll get to those!

But first, we’ve been meaning to share this one. 👌

We’d known about Cobe’s new 2026 Audi S3 since February while it was still on special order. He chose us to take care of the new-car preparation and protection, including three full days of paint preparation, Level 2 correction and refinement before the coatings were applied.

And this is where proper preparation makes the difference. New doesn’t mean perfect.

The owner of this rare 12-month-old Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition - just 1 of 50 delivered to Australia - reached out to us after noticing something every enthusiast dreads.

Following a routine dealership service and complimentary wash in Canberra, the once-pristine Artisan Red paintwork was left covered in heavy swirl marks and random in-depth scratches.

Judging by the damage, it appeared to have been washed with a dirty sponge or brush. We'll never know exactly what caused it but unfortunately the damage had already been done.

After a thorough wash and decontamination, we spent three days restoring the paint finish with a meticulous 3-stage paint correction. Although the MX-5 is a small car, the level of defect removal required was anything but.

The process not only removed the heavy swirl marks and random deep scratches but also eliminated countless bug stain etchings that had become embedded in the paintwork. A heavy cutting stage, intermediate polishing and final refinement were required to achieve the finish the owner expected.

Once the paintwork was perfected, we carried out our Modesta ceramic coating process, including:

Some vehicles are bought to keep. This is one of them.

This 5,000km Toyota Prado made the trip from Canberra to our Wagga workshop for one reason - to have its ceramic coating done properly.

The owner isn't someone who changes vehicles every few years. His previous LandCruiser has remained in the family for more than 25 years and travelled close to 1 million kilometres. If history is anything to go by, we expect this Prado will be no different.

New to our customer, but not quite perfect.

This Brabus Smart was recently collected from a dealership in Sydney and booked straight into our workshop for paint refinement and long-term paint protection with Modesta ceramic coating.

In fact, this is the fourth vehicle we have coated for this customer over the years.

Although the vehicle wasn't particularly old, the black paintwork had already suffered from a dealership detail. Under proper inspection lighting, the finish showed significant buffer haze and polishing marks caused by poor machine polishing technique, the wrong compound and contaminated pads.

On a black vehicle, defects like these stand out dramatically and prevent the paint from reaching its full gloss, clarity and depth.

To restore the finish, we completely re-detailed the vehicle and carried out a multi-stage machine polish before refining the paint with Modesta's dedicated coating primer. Once the finish was perfected, it was protected with Modesta BC-X ceramic coating and infrared heat lamp cured to ensure maximum performance and durability. The wheels were also coated with BC-X for easier maintenance and long-term protection.

🚨 Check Out The Transformation On This 29-Year-Old Mitsubishi Verada! 🚨

The owner thought the paintwork on this Verada looked pretty good for its age... but we could already see there was much more potential hiding underneath years of built-up contamination, oxidation and layers of old polish.

Before any polishing could begin, the surface needed to be thoroughly, decontaminated and scrubbed cleaned back to bare paint. Once the years of buildup had been removed, the true condition of the paint was revealed - dull, oxidised and covered in the usual swirl marks accumulated over nearly three decades of use.

One thing I've learnt after 25 years in this industry is that people who have never experienced a proper paint correction and ceramic coating service often underestimate what's possible. They look at faded, tired paint and immediately say, "Just respray it."

The reality is that many vehicles don't need a respray.

A skilled detailer can often restore original paintwork far beyond what most people think is possible.
