We are often asked what do the steps do in the hull of our OFFSHORE 800.
A stepped hull works by reducing the surface area in contact with the water, thereby minimizing drag and increasing speed and fuel efficiency. Stepped hulls have notches or indentations in the hull bottom, forcing water to separate from the hull, reducing wetted surface. When a boat reaches planing speed, these steps aerate the water, further reducing friction and allowing the boat to lift onto the water's surface with less resistance.
