We had an interesting one yesterday.
A customer had his Nissan Xtrail at the dealership his complaint being “shudder on light throttle when the vehicle is hot”.
The dealer charged him $860 for diagnosis and told him he needed a new catalytic converter inc manifold which would cost an additional $6000!
He declined the fix and went to an exhaust shop to replace the catalytic converter manifold for $2000.
However……the problem was still present.
He booked in with us for another opinion.
After scanning the ECU we couldn’t find any faults at all. And it took a bit of driving to replicate the fault, but we did manage to feel the issue after some time.
We removed the spark plugs as it felt like an ignition breakdown.
On inspection of the spark plugs we found the plug gap was huge and the electrode tip worn to almost nothing.
We replaced the spark plugs and after multiple drives we can confirm the vehicle is fixed!
Not sure why the basics like spark plugs weren’t checked initially. We feel for customers with stories like this one.
