Brigade members had a virtual reality check last night (Monday 31 August) when they used FLAIM technology to respond to realistic emergency incidents in a safe environment.

Scenarios included haystack fires, machinery fires, car fires and house under ember attack.

Participants said it was a fun way to learn more about live and serious firefighting techniques.

Thanks to Anthony Kovco for setting up the gear and debriefing after each scenario.

AFAC News has released the Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for Spring. The outlook suggests an earlier start to the bushfire season this year. Drought-affected areas in parts of eastern and western Victoria are facing an increased bushfire risk leading into spring and summer.

Under the forecast conditions, there is potential for multiple large fires starting as early as October across parts of the state.

Now is a great time to start preparing your plan and property, including:
📋 Updating your fire plan
🌱 Mowing long grass
🏡 Clearing gutters.

Boisdale Hill Climb was the venue for a group training exercise yesterday (Saturday 15 August) to refresh skills in drafting, a (mock) running grass fire, hazardous tree identification and entrapment drill.

Valencia Creek crews were joined by Boisdale, Cowwarr, Glenmaggie, Coongulla, Newry, Sale and Maffra brigades.

The national AusAlert test is coming to us on Monday 27 July at 2.00pm

Be ready for it!

A test alert will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in Australia as part of this national test of a new emergency messaging system.

More on the Delta Bridge upgrade

🚗🌉 The wait is over... Delta Bridge is now open!

After months of work, the Delta Bridge Upgrade on Valencia Creek–Briagolong Road has been completed, providing:

✅ Improved structural strength
✅ Safer and more reliable crossing
✅ Better support for heavy vehicles
✅ An important connection for local communities

Thank you to everyone (especially the locals) who adapted to changed traffic conditions while the important works were underway. Great work by our project team and contractors in delivering this important upgrade.

Fire restrictions will be lifted from 1.00am tomorrow, Tuesday 7 April in Wellington Shire.

If you are planning a burn, please register it on 1800 668 511 or at
www.firepermits.vic.gov.au so brigades are not called out to a smoke sighting that is your burn off.

The planned burn at Back Wombat, west of Valencia Creek has been completed and will be patrolled over the weekend.

You may still see or smell smoke locally as vegetation within the burn area continues to smoulder.
