Some Jeep Wranglers are needing major repairs at just 26,000km. Here’s what we’re seeing.

The latest JL Wrangler has some recurring problems that buyers should know about, whether you’re buying brand new or looking at a second hand one.

Rear shocks leaking, the factory red shocks leaking almost straight off the showroom floor.

The RAM Ute is rising significantly in popularity in Australia. What we are noticing is as the WK2 Grand Cherokee begins to age, some owners looking to upgrade are choosing the Ram as opposed to the WL. (The WL did not sell well due to high pricing, no diesel option in Australia and average towing capability)
This means we at GDL are seeing Rams through the shop daily.

Jeep revised the 3.6 Pentastar V6. So why are the camshafts still failing?

The later 3.6 Pentastar V6 engines fitted to the WK2 Grand Cherokee, JL Wrangler and JT Gladiator received changes to the camshaft and rocker design intended to address the notorious lifter tick.

But we're still seeing chewed up cam lobes and the same underlying problem.

The hard truth? There is currently no upgraded replacement part that guarantees this won't happen again.

Even after replacing the cams and lifters, the problem can return.

WK2 Grand Cherokee Power Steering Failure? Dont spend $4500 dollars unnecessarily

The electric power steering pump on your WK2 Grand Cherokee can develop a leak or suffer an electrical failure, and the fix for each can be very different.

In this video, we pull one apart and explain what actually goes wrong.

A brand new pump was around $3,500 for the petrol V6 and $4,500 for the diesel V6 at the time of filming, in Australian dollars.

If you're dealing with a power steering issue on your WK2, this could save you a serious amount of money.

Two are getting our 4 hose packages, while another is getting new upper and lower control arms.

Plenty happening in the workshop, keeping Grand Cherokees on the road and ready for Summer.

EcoDiesel blown up and out of warranty? Don’t pay for a new engine just yet.

Before you spend thousands on repairs, there’s one thing worth trying first. Ask Jeep if they’ll cover some or all of the repair costs as a goodwill gesture.

It’s not guaranteed, but if your Grand Cherokee has a good service history, it’s absolutely worth asking.

Here’s the tip that could make all the difference. Keep it calm, stick to the facts and be reasonable. Threats and aggression won’t help your case.

If Jeep says no, we can talk you through your options and help you work out the best way forward.
