🚗 2026 Car Show Charges — Are Annual and Monthly Car Show Entry Fees Becoming Too Expensive?
There was a time when entering a car show was one of the most affordable parts of the hobby.
These days, however, it isn't unusual to see participant registration fees climb well beyond what many enthusiasts remember paying just a few years ago. At some of the larger National and Regional events, entry fees can reach levels that make owners stop and think before signing up.
So, what is the breaking point?
For many enthusiasts, it's not just the registration fee itself. The total cost of attending can quickly add up — fuel, accommodation, meals, trailer expenses, time off work, and the entry fee can turn a weekend at a car show into a significant financial outlay.
Understandably, many owners start asking themselves:
"Is one car show worth several hundred dollars — or even more?"
On the other hand, it's important to understand what event organisers are facing.
Putting on a legitimate car show has become considerably more expensive. Venue hire has increased, insurance premiums continue to rise, permits cost more, and security and emergency services can add significantly to the budget. Larger events may also require paid staff to handle registration, logistics, parking and general operations.
Then there are awards, entertainment, advertising, portable toilets and countless other behind-the-scenes expenses. Most attendees never see the long list of bills that have to be paid before the first car even rolls through the gate.
Finding the right balance is the real challenge.
Price registration too low, and organisers may struggle to cover their costs or continue putting on the event.
Price it too high, and fewer participants may register. That means fewer cars for spectators to see — and without the cars, even the best-planned event loses a major part of its appeal.
Perhaps the bigger question isn't simply:
"How much does it cost?"
but rather:
"Does the experience justify the price?"
If participants feel welcomed, enjoy a well-organised event, receive good value for their money and create lasting memories, they're often willing to come back.
But if they leave feeling they paid too much for too little, they may choose to spend their money elsewhere next time.
Car shows exist because of two essential groups: the organisers, who invest countless hours and often significant money to make these events happen, and the car owners, who invest their time, money and passion to bring their vehicles.
Both are essential — and both are feeling the impact of rising costs.
