Road safety was front and centre in Perth last week, as CCAT hosted a stakeholder event on transport technologies for safer roads. Supported by RAC WA, the event brought together government and industry voices to discuss how connected and automated transport technologies can help turn around WA's road toll.

Autonomous road trains are moving closer to commercial deployment in Western Australia.

CCAT Executive Director Rahila David was in Perth today with Simon Stone and the AORA Solutions team, getting an up-close look at their autonomous road train technology following its first public demonstration.

The visit was a chance to hear more about the progress being made and what comes next as AORA prepares to deploy the technology commercially in WA.

Every road death is one too many.

The latest figures from the National Road Safety Data Hub show 1,325 people lost their lives on Australian roads in the year ending 30 June 2026 – a national toll that has increased in every one of the past five years.

Australia is working towards the goal of zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads by 2050 but reaching this goal will require more than traditional approaches. Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), automated driving systems, connected vehicles and smart infrastructure are creating new opportunities to prevent crashes before they happen and make our roads safer for everyone.
