This R34 GT-R project is going to be a little different for us.

We are undertaking a full restoration of the car in Cambodia, and one of the most important parts of this project is that we want to showcase what can be achieved using Cambodian technicians, Cambodian workshops and Cambodian skills.

The body restoration and much of the work on the car will be completed locally in Cambodia. Our team will have guidance and support from experienced people who have worked and trained overseas, but the goal is very much to involve the local guys, develop their skills and give them the opportunity to be part of a world-class build.

Powertune Asia will be responsible for the electronics side of the project. We want to use the R34 to showcase the wiring, electronics, engine management and technical capabilities we are continuing to develop within our Cambodian workshop.

The engine will be built here in Australia through PowerTune Australia, using Australian products and the network of suppliers, manufacturers and people we have built relationships with over many years.

For me, this project is about more than simply restoring an R34 GT-R.

I want to use the car to showcase Australian products and businesses, the experience and skills we have developed at PowerTune Australia, the growing capabilities of PowerTune Asia, and most importantly, the skills and potential of the Cambodian people working on the project.

There will also be a big training component along the way. We know it will be a long process and there will be plenty to learn, but that is part of the reason for doing it.

We’ll document the build as it progresses — the restoration, engine, electronics, tuning, training and the people involved.

Hopefully, when the car is finished, it won’t just be an amazing R34 GT-R. It will also show what can be achieved when we bring together the knowledge, products and experience from Australia with the talent and determination of the team in Cambodia.

David's R33 GT-R is starting to feel like a complete package.

Richard took it up and down the street for a quick shakedown, demonstrating the PPG sequential and air-shift setup and more importantly, showing just how smooth we're getting it.

For a car with a billet 3.2L, sequential gearbox and this level of hardware, the goal was never just to make everything "work". We want the whole car to work together as one complete, finished package with a cherry on top.

Clean shifts, predictable behaviour and a package that David can actually get in and enjoy.

Still some finishing touches to go, but its coming together nicely.

Chris' R33 GT-R back together and on the dyno.

On the initial runs we were limited to around 280kW, with the onboard MAP sensor reaching its limit and some old fuel still in the tank.

A new MAP sensor, fresh fuel and some time on the dyno later 342.5kW.

Nothing crazy. Nothing it doesnt need to be.

Just a healthy, well-sorted R33 GT-R with a freshened-up setup and a nice bump in power for Chris to enjoy.

342.5kW at the wheels.

Okay fine, we’ve been caught. Kenji let the cat out of the bag. 🤦‍♂️

We wanted to keep this one a secret a little longer, but that’s apparently difficult when ex-Nippon Television investigative reporter Kenji is working in your marketing department.

So yes. The rumours are true. Ryan’s been busy developing our MoTeC M142 Plug-In Kit for the Audi RS3 8V.

Secret’s out.

Pre-orders are available now on our website.
Kenji's no longer allowed in the dyno room.

This isn't new.

We've had our B&M Gear Position Sensor listed on the website for a while now, but here's something we probably should've made clearer.

We make them for M&M shifters too.

And now, finally, theres an actual listing for it.

Our M&M Shifter Gear Position Sensor allows your shifter to communicate its current gear position to your ECU, dash or other compatible electronics.

Because once the ECU knows the selected gear, you can start using that information for much more than just putting a big 1, 2, 3 on the dash.

- Gear-dependent boost control
- Gear-dependent torque strategies
- Data logging and driver analysis
- Additional ECU control and protection strategies based on selected gear

Got an M&M shifter? We've got the sensor for it.

631rwkW and a fresh PPG billet sequential.

Ozay taking Gary's S15 through the gears with Richard riding shotgun as we start getting some road time into the new gearbox.

Big power is one thing. Our philosophy is making the whole package work together getting a serious car like this to shift, respond and drive as smoothly as possible.

More to come.

Oooh what do we have here?

Jay's old-school Lamborghini Gallardo has popped into the shop for a little electronic problem solving.

Its running a modern aftermarket ECU, but the relationship between old-school Italian electronics and new-school engine management isnt quite as harmonious as it should be. The car is throwing a few errors, so we're putting our experience with CAN communications and vehicle electronics to work to figure out exactly what's getting lost in translation.

No big spanners required for this one. Just laptops, wiring diagrams and thinking caps.

The goal: get the old and the new talking properly, clear up the errors and make the whole package work together the way it should.

Definitely something a little more exotic in the workshop this week.

A whole lot of MoTeC heading out the door today.

Thank you to everyone for the huge interest.

MoTeC has increasingly become our platform of choice for some of our biggest development projects from the B58/S58 platform to the Audi RS3, GR Yaris/Corolla, GTRs, smooth sequentials and plenty more in the works.

Engine management, power distribution, displays, CAN integration and vehicle control all built into one ecosystem.

Plenty happening behind the scenes.

Wizardry Wednesday

What most people see here is an absolute mess of wiring.
Graham, apparently, sees something else entirely.

"You get used to it. I don't even see the code. All I see is blonde, brunette, redhead..."

Okay, he didn't actually say that. But you get the drift.

Spread across the wiring room is a complete, monster of a custom engine harness, being built from the ground up. When it's finished, it'll tie together:

2x MoTeC M142 ECUs
2x MoTeC P32 Power Distribution Modules
1x MoTeC C125 display
Multiple keypads

And a whole lot of vehicle systems that currently look like spaghetti to the rest of us.

And this is only Phase 1.

Right now it's connectors, modules, kilometres of wire, old factory harnesses being reverse engineered, labelled and redesigned with Graham staring at things that would make most of us quietly leave the room.

By the time he's finished, all of this will disappear into one properly integrated, beautifully finished system.

It's a mess now. It's going to look veeeery sleek later.

Boy, are we glad we have a Graham.
