A lot of people know us for GT-Rs, Silvias and fast street cars.

Then every now and then something like Glenn's off-road buggy rolls through the doors.

Under the skin sits a Toyota 2GR V6 that was previously running a supercharger package we tuned some time ago. Since then the combination has changed. The blower has come off and the management package has been reworked, which means it's back on the dyno for a fresh calibration.

Looking around this thing, it's hard not to appreciate how purpose-built it is. Tube chassis, long-travel suspension, a rear-mounted radiator package and not a whole lot else. In fact, for today's tuning session it didn't even have a floor fitted.

Everything on the car exists for one reason: to survive being driven flat out over terrain that would destroy most vehicles.

It's a very different environment to what we're used to seeing on the street, but the fundamentals are the same. Get the package right, make it reliable, and give the driver confidence to use all of it.

Safe to say this isn't your average Camry.

Some manufacturers build cars for market segments.

Toyota built this for enthusiasts.

The GR Corolla is one of those rare modern cars that feels like it was signed off by people who actually like driving. Six-speed manual. Turbocharged three-cylinder. GR-Four all-wheel drive.

This one is in the workshop for a twin-plate clutch upgrade after its owner has been giving it a proper workout.

And honestly, that's exactly what these cars are for.

We've got a lot of time for Toyota's GR lineup. GR Yaris, GR Corolla, GR86, GR Supra — they're all different cars, but they share the same philosophy. Build something fun first and worry about the spreadsheets later.

We'd love to see what the GR crowd is doing.

What are you driving and what have you done to it so far?

Drop a photo in the comments and show us your build.

A few of you have been asking for an update on Gary's S15, so here we go.

The gearbox and clutch have been removed, making way for the incoming PPG sequential transmission and matching clutch. We'll soon also be moving forward with the MoTeC C1212 dash integration with one of our plug in harnesses.

As with most projects, a lot of the big changes happen when the car doesn't look dramatically different from the outside. This is one of those stages.

We'll keep the updates coming as the sequential installation gets underway and the car starts taking shape again.

A look behind the curtain.

When Jacko unveiled his Midnight Purple III R34 GT-R at GT-R Festival earlier this year, most people saw the finished product.

What they didn't get to see were the countless hours, decisions and details that took place long before the car ever turned a wheel.

These photos were taken back in 2024 during the build process.

A lot of projects start with a horsepower target.

This one started with a standard.

-Purity-

Brand new parts only. No compromises. No shortcuts.

From the way every component was sourced, unboxed, laid out and handled, right through to final assembly, every stage reflected the philosophy Jacko brought to the project.

The thing that stood out most wasn't any individual component, or even the combination of components.

It was the patience.

The willingness to spend the extra time, source the right parts and do things properly, even when nobody else would ever know the difference.

Because the truth is, a build like this isn't really about the parts.

It's about discipline.

It's about holding yourself to a standard and refusing to compromise on it.

We're grateful Jacko trusted us to be part of that journey and help bring his vision to life.

The finished result may have stopped people in their tracks at GT-R Festival, but these are some of our favourite photos because they capture the stage very few people ever get to see.

And somehow, we don't think Jacko is finished yet...

Long weekend or not, Peter's wiring room doesn't stop.

This batch of looms is currently being assembled, tested and prepared for customers around Australia and overseas.

One thing a lot of people don't realise is that every loom that leaves here is individually tested and documented. Each one receives its own serial number, undergoes electrical verification and leaves with a test report confirming it has passed before it's packed for dispatch.

It's not the quickest way to build wiring products, but it's the standard we've chosen to hold ourselves to.

Spend five minutes with Peter and you'll quickly realise why.

Every connector, every label, every pin and every branch gets scrutinised. He treats these looms like they're his own kids, because once they leave the workshop they're carrying the Powertune name with them.

The result is a product that arrives ready to install, backed by the confidence that it has already been tested before it reaches your hands.

That's the part most people never see.

Not a bad way to kick off the long weekend.

David's billet 3.2L is now mated to the billet PPG sequential and transfer case, with the entire assembly now sitting neatly back in the car.

A lot of attention gets paid to the big-ticket items, but it's the details that make combinations like this work. The custom air-shift system took some clever thinking, with bespoke adaptors, fittings and mounting solutions bringing the gearbox actuator package together cleanly and reliably.

The close-up shots show some of those pieces. Small components that most people will never notice once the car is finished, but they're critical to making a package like this operate properly.

Now that the drivetrain is sitting where it belongs, the team can get started on the next stage of plumbing, wiring and integration.

This one is getting closer.

Happy King's B'day long weekend!

A few weeks ago, John's R34 GT-R was sitting in the workshop with its fresh billet engine and gearbox waiting to go back in.

Now, it's alive, and breathing.

Engine in. Gearbox in. Started. Checked. Ready for its run-in tune.

While the boys were busy on the mechanical side of the build, Richard could usually be found with a microfiber cloth in hand making sure every panel and piece of trim was treated like it belonged to him.

That's something we've always believed in. These cars aren't just jobs on a worksheet. They're projects people have spent years dreaming about, building and saving for.

The sequential is already feeling incredibly smooth and we're looking forward to showing you what this thing is capable of once the run-in is complete.

Next stop: Run-in tune.

Then the fun starts.

Wizardry Wednesday

Pete takes us through one of our Nissan S15 to MoTeC C1212 integration looms.

Most people think fitting a motorsport dash is simply a matter of displaying engine data. The real challenge is making sure all the factory essentials and creature comforts continue to work as Nissan intended.

Indicators, headlights, warning lamps, door triggers, central locking and all the little things you don't think about until they're missing.

This loom allows the C1212 to integrate with the factory systems, retaining the functionality of the original dash while unlocking everything the MoTeC platform has to offer.

It's one of those parts that disappears once installed, but a huge amount of thought goes into making it work seamlessly.

Big things. Little packages.

Every workshop has its flashy jobs.

The big horsepower builds.
The billet parts.
The cars that break the internet.

But the jobs that often mean the most are the ones where somebody has been stuck.

Brian's VL arrived needing a Link ECU wired in properly, along with the sensors required to keep everything happy and protected once tuning starts.

For Pete, it was another day at the office.

For Brian, hopefully it's one step closer to finally enjoying a project that's been causing more headaches than smiles.

This sort of work is part of Powertune's DNA. Long before the huge horsepower numbers, it was about helping friends solve problems and get back to enjoying their cars.

We'll never get tired of that.

Some parts arrive looking like jewellery.
This PPG Sequential is one of them.

Billet casing, helical gears and built to handle power figures that make us giggle.

This one is destined for David's R33 GT-R, where it'll be paired with a billet RB32.

George was busy today mating it up to the transfer case before it gets bolted to the engine and hung in the car.

Billet + Billet... Not a bad combo
