Nissan’s SR20VET was a groundbreaking engine, widely recognized as the first production turbocharged engine to combine variable valve lift and timing (VVL) with turbocharging. This 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four produced an impressive 280 PS (276 hp), making it a standout powerplant for its time.
What made it especially unusual was its application. Rather than powering a sports coupe, Nissan installed the SR20VET in the Japan-only X-Trail GT, turning a practical SUV into an unexpected performance machine.
The engine was paired with Nissan’s ALL MODE 4x4 system, delivering power through all four wheels for added traction and control. This combination of turbocharged performance, advanced valve technology, and all-wheel-drive capability gave the X-Trail GT a character unlike most SUVs of its era.
The SR20VET remains a memorable example of Nissan’s engineering creativity, proving that serious performance could come from a vehicle designed for everyday practicality.

The Toyota Celica GT-Four ST185 was engineered for rally dominance, featuring a turbocharged 2.0-liter 3S-GTE engine and full-time four-wheel drive. Toyota also developed the GT-Four RC, producing 5,000 road-going examples to meet Group A homologation requirements.
Between 1992 and 1994, the ST185 claimed 16 World Rally Championship event victories, proving its strength on some of the toughest stages in motorsport. Its success helped Toyota capture both the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ championships in 1993, cementing the Celica GT-Four’s place among the greatest rally cars of its era.

Meet the Subaru Impreza 22B STI X, a modern interpretation of one of Japan’s most iconic rally-bred performance cars.
The original Impreza became a global legend during the 1990s, combining a turbocharged BOXER engine, Symmetrical AWD, and Subaru’s unmistakable blue-and-gold rally identity. Its motorsport success helped build that reputation, including Subaru’s three consecutive WRC Manufacturers’ Championships from 1995 through 1997. STI Official Website
Then came the legendary 1998 Impreza 22B STI. With its widebody two-door design, flared fenders, massive rear spoiler, gold BBS wheels, turbocharged 2.2-liter BOXER engine, and AWD system, it looked and felt like a road-going version of Subaru’s rally cars. STI produced just 400 units, making the 22B incredibly rare from the beginning. STI Official Website
Now imagine taking that formula and bringing it into a modern generation—sharper styling, advanced suspension, modern AWD technology, and even more performance, while keeping the raw character that made the original so special.
Would you want Subaru to actually build a modern 22B STI? What are your thoughts?

The Mercedes-AMG GT R featured a clever active aerodynamic system hidden beneath its front end. In RACE mode, once the car reached speeds above 80 km/h, a lightweight carbon-fiber panel automatically dropped by around 40 mm. This changed the airflow underneath the car, creating a Venturi effect that helped pull the front end closer to the road.
At 250 km/h, the system reduced front-axle lift by approximately 40 kg, improving stability and steering precision at high speeds. What makes this engineering detail even more impressive is its size: the entire carbon-fiber component weighed only about 2 kg.
Rather than relying solely on a larger rear wing, Mercedes-AMG used this small but effective feature to improve the GT R’s aerodynamic balance. It’s a great example of how motorsport-inspired engineering can make a meaningful difference to a car’s performance on the road and track.

GMC could be preparing to bring back one of its most recognizable SUV names: the Jimmy. Expected to arrive as a 2029 model, the revived SUV is rumored to take on tough off-road rivals like the Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler, and Toyota 4Runner.

Unlike the modern Chevrolet Blazer, the new Jimmy is expected to use a body-on-frame platform, potentially sharing its underpinnings with the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado. That setup could give it the rugged foundation needed for serious off-road driving.

Design details remain unconfirmed, but reports suggest GMC may take inspiration from its classic Square Body SUVs, giving the Jimmy a boxy shape, upright stance, and retro styling cues. MotorTrend’s illustrations also imagine both two-door and four-door versions.

Under the hood, a turbocharged 2.7-liter four-cylinder could serve as the standard engine, while a V8 may also be considered. A more advanced rear suspension could help it compete with established off-roaders.

GMC has not officially confirmed the Jimmy’s return, so these details remain speculative. If it happens, the SUV could arrive around late 2028 or early 2029, with pricing expected to start in the low-to-mid $40,000 range.

Porsche is continuing to invest in electric vehicles, hybrids, and combustion engines, but one thing is clear: the iconic 911 will not become fully electric. Under its Strategy 2035 plan, the company says its specially developed performance-hybrid system will play a key role in the 911’s future, while preserving its traditional engine.

Porsche CEO Michael Leiters has also emphasized a more focused product lineup, with fewer model variants and investments guided by customer demand. The company is continuing to develop electric models such as the Cayenne Electric, while also adjusting its plans for future combustion-powered vehicles.

The strategy reflects Porsche’s intention to offer different powertrains rather than move entirely toward EVs. For the 911, hybrid technology is being treated as a long-term part of its performance formula—not simply a temporary step toward full electrification.

The C7 Corvette ZR1’s 755-hp supercharged LT5 V8 demanded a serious cooling system. Chevrolet equipped the ZR1 with 13 heat exchangers, including additional radiators, supercharger cooling, a differential oil cooler, transmission cooling, and power-steering cooling.

All that extra hardware was designed to help the ZR1 maintain performance under demanding conditions, ensuring its huge power could be used repeatedly without excessive heat becoming a limiting factor.

A beautifully preserved 1995 Oldsmobile Aurora has appeared on Bring a Trailer, offering a rare look at one of Oldsmobile’s most interesting luxury sedans from the 1990s. This particular example has covered only 8,000 miles, making it remarkably close to the condition it would have been in when new.

Under the hood is a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated V8, derived from Cadillac’s Northstar engine. It features dual overhead camshafts and an aluminum construction, producing 250 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent through a four-speed automatic transmission, giving the Aurora a smooth, comfortable character that suits long-distance cruising.

What makes the Aurora even more interesting is its connection to Oldsmobile’s Aerotech endurance racers. The same basic 4.0-liter V8 powered those experimental machines, which went on to set 47 world records during their development and testing.

With its aerodynamic styling, comfortable interior, low mileage, and overlooked V8 heritage, this green-over-sandstone Aurora represents a fascinating piece of 1990s American automotive history. The auction ended on September 23, 2026.

The legendary Jensen Interceptor is making a modern comeback with the new Interceptor GTX, a track-focused performance car that brings the classic British grand tourer into the modern era. Jensen International Automotive has developed the GTX as a clean-sheet model while keeping the distinctive character of the original Interceptor. 

The new GTX uses a hand-built aluminum body and chassis and is powered by a bespoke V-8 engine producing an impressive 960 horsepower. Unlike the original luxury-focused Interceptor, this version has been designed specifically with serious track performance in mind.

Its styling mixes familiar Jensen cues with modern aerodynamic hardware, including aggressive bodywork, carbon-fiber components, a large rear wing, and a performance-focused rear diffuser. The distinctive fastback-style profile remains an important link to the original car.

The GTX will initially be offered as a track-only model, but Jensen International Automotive says it will serve as the foundation for future versions, including road-legal variants. The company has also emphasized that the project has strong connections to Jensen's history, with Jeff Qvale involved in bringing the nameplate back.

With its classic inspiration, lightweight construction, and huge V-8 power, the Interceptor GTX represents a very different interpretation of the Jensen name for the modern era.
