Stop Domestic Violence against men

Stop the family court and police descriminating again men in courts

Stop the su***de of 2400 men a year as a result of domestic violence against men by women and discrimination in courts and by police

sign the petition Petition EN9924 - Appoint a Dedicated Minister for Men
Petition Reason
Australia has maintained a dedicated Minister for Women since 1976, ensuring women's issues receive focused ministerial attention. No equivalent role exists for men, despite the following documented outcomes: In 2024, 2,529 Australian men died by su***de at a rate of 18.3 per 100,000, compared to 778 women at 5.5 per 100,000. Three in four su***des in Australia are male. (ABS, Causes of Death 2024) In 2024, men accounted for 96% of all workplace fatalities. (Safe Work Australia 2025) 56% of the 122,000 Australians experiencing homelessness on census night 2021 were male. (AIHW) Australian men live an average of four years less than women. (AIHW) Research tabled in Parliament found more than half of separated fathers reported suicidal thoughts, with legal stress identified as a primary contributing factor. (AIHW) No minister currently holds a formal mandate to address these outcomes specifically for men.

Petition Request
We therefore ask the House to call on the Australian Government to appoint a dedicated Minister for Men, equivalent in status and scope to the existing Minister for Women, to provide formal ministerial advocacy for male welfare outcomes in Australia.

The majority of victims of dv are men and not women . Dv is not only physical.

Women are killing men or increasingly causing harm to men through non-physical forms of domestic abuse, particularly psychological abuse, while often portraying themselves as victims. While 150 women have been killed by their ex-partners and 50 men have been directly killed by women, a much larger number—around 2,400 men—are driven to su***de during or after abusive relationships due to psychological manipulation by a woman .

Additionally, thousands more men suffer from addiction, mental health issues, and physical health problems such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and depression as a result of psychological abuse by women. This cycle of abuse must be addressed and stopped.

Research confirms that trauma and betrayal induce stress, which elevates cortisol levels. Chronic elevation of cortisol impacts both mental and physical health, increasing the risk of obesity, heart disease, cancer and other serious illnesses that can lead to death or disability .

Here is supporting evidence from academic research:

1. **Betrayal and abuse cause stress:**
- *Freyd, J. J. (1996). Betrayal Trauma: The Logic of Forgetting Childhood Abuse.*
Explores how betrayal and abuse trigger emotional and psychological stress responses.

2. **Stress triggers cortisol release:**
- *McEwen, B. S. (2007). Physiology and neurobiology of stress and adaptation: central role of the brain.*
Describes how stress activates the HPA axis, leading to cortisol secretion.

3. **Elevated cortisol contributes to obesity and mental health issues:**
- *Lupien, S. J., et al. (2009). Effects of stress throughout the lifespan on the brain, behaviour and cognition.*
Details how chronic cortisol elevation affects brain function and promotes fat accumulation.
- *Jacobson, L., & Sapolsky, R. (1991). The regulation of cortisol secretion during stress.*
Discusses cortisol’s role in metabolic and mental health disturbances.

4. **Obesity increases the risk of heart disease:**
- *Lavie, C. J., et al. (2009). Obesity and cardiovascular disease.*
Summarizes the link between obesity and cardiovascular risk factors.

5. **Chronic stress and cortisol dysregulation lead to physical illnesses:**
- *Chrousos, G. P. (2009). Stress and disorders of the stress system.*
Explores how prolonged stress impacts immune function and contributes to various health conditions.

It’s crucial to recognize and address psychological abuse in relationships to prevent these severe health consequences and save lives.
