Subaru has done it again
So I have had the chance to repair an imported hybrid XV it’s a 2013 model from Japan . It came in with a heap of codes and the hybrid system not working. We did not get these in XV and Forester till 2020 but they are basically the same set up. To cut a long story short it had a faulty O ring that causes oil to leak into the electric motor part in the intermediate housing of the cvt. Subaru say you can’t get the O rings for them so in Japan they we’re supplying a new complete valve with the new O rings on it which was actually getting done under warranty and cars out of warranty were also getting done.
So working with a Subaru bulletin I went through the checks which said that would be the problem and that’s after I had to buy a 1000 volt meter to test with as well.
Cvt out of the car and dismantled found the valve had a broken O ring we got a new valve one from overseas and replaced it.
When working correctly these cars are lucky to be electric in a car park as soon as you want to accelerate the engine starts and basically is always running as you drive unless you are rolling downhill or coasting and even then the Eng will start if you try and cruise at that speed or even at ridiculously slow speeds there is just no point to the whole system
