With fuel prices rising quickly here are our top tips for saving fuel! Do you have any we have missed?
1. Flow with the traffic: Avoid hard and sudden acceleration and braking.
2. Empty out you boot: Don’t keep your car loaded with “stuff’, that doesn’t need to be in there. The lighter your car the less fuel you will use. 3. Turn off your air con: Switch-off the air-conditioning and open the windows - this reduces fuel consumption by up to 10 per cent.
4. Take off roof-racks and bull bars if they’re not required: They increase aerodynamic drag and weight, which, depending on the type of driving you do, increases fuel consumption by up to 5 per cent.
5. Check your tyre pressures regularly: Low tyre pressure can increase fuel consumption.
6. Have your car serviced regularly: When your car is running well it uses less fuel.
7. When refilling with petrol, fill only to the first “click off” of the pump and ensure that the fuel tank cap is replaced tightly.
8. During hotter weather park in the shade: Parking in the sun can increase the amount of fuel that evaporates from your petrol tank.
9. Stick to speed limits: The faster you go the greater the fuel consumption and pollution.
10. Use people power: For that short trip to the shops when the weather’s fine, try walking or riding a bicycle - besides reducing fuel consumption and looking after our planet, you’ll get fit in the process💪
