4 Things That Can Happen When Your A/C Compressor Seizes

A seized A/C compressor can cause a lot more trouble than just losing cold air. It can place serious strain on the drive belt, cause the engine to stall, spread contamination through the A/C system and turn a smaller repair into a much bigger bill.

Common warning signs include squealing or grinding noises, a burning-rubber smell, the engine struggling when the A/C is switched on, or the A/C suddenly stopping altogether.

🔋 Battery or alternator... how do you tell the difference?

Your car won’t start, but that doesn’t always mean you need a new battery. We asked our techs, and the most common answer was simple: if the battery warning light is on your dash, don’t ignore it. It’s often a sign your alternator or charging system isn’t doing its job.

Why does my fuse keep blowing?

If your fuse keeps blowing, don’t just replace it with a bigger one. It’s doing its job by protecting your vehicle from a more serious electrical fault.

Our techs all had the same answer... the most common cause is a short circuit. ⚡

If you’re constantly replacing the same fuse, it’s time to find the fault—not fit another fuse.

🚦 Your car conked out at the lights… now what?

Before you panic (or call the tow truck), we asked our auto electricians what the first things they check are.
Here’s what they recommend:
⛽ Do you have fuel? It sounds obvious, but don’t rely entirely on the fuel gauge—faulty senders do happen.
⚠️ Are there any warning lights on the dash? Battery, engine or immobiliser lights can provide valuable clues.
🌡️ Check your temperature gauge. If the engine has overheated, don’t keep trying to restart it.

We also recommend:
🔋 Check your battery terminals. Pop the bonnet and make sure they’re tight and free from corrosion. A loose terminal can stop a car in its tracks.
👀 Have a quick look under the bonnet. Look for anything obviously loose, disconnected or leaking. Just don’t touch anything that’s hot or moving.
🔄 Try restarting it once or twice. If it won’t start after a couple of attempts, stop there. Continuously cranking the engine can flatten the battery and make diagnosing the issue even harder.

These simple checks can help you understand what’s happened and provide useful information if you need roadside assistance or an auto electrician.
