The driver of the orange car has entered the roundabout from the right-hand lane and is now travelling in the left-hand lane of the spiral roundabout.

Is the orange car allowed to change lanes to use the right-hand lane on this spiral roundabout to take the next exit?

===

ANSWER: No. Spiral line-marking is used to help guide drivers onto single lane exits adjacent to two circulating lanes.

In this example, the next exit leads to a single lane road. The driver must stay in the left-hand lane on the roundabout if they are taking the next exit.

They must continue to signal right until they are ready to exit. The driver must then signal left before exiting the roundabout if it’s practical to do so.

The driver of the blue car wants to join the turning lane so they've driven onto the painted traffic island. Is that allowed?

====

ANSWER: Yes. You can drive on a painted traffic island that is surrounded by a single continuous line for up to 50 metres to enter or leave the road; enter a turning lane that begins immediately after the island; move from one part of the road to another, such as moving to or from a service road; or to safely pass a bicycle rider.

You can also drive on a painted island to safely overtake a bicycle rider.

Mobile phone detection cameras being trialled on Queensland roads have caught 1000 drivers breaking the law in just two weeks. 😲

Motorists are exempt from fines during the six-month trial, but the RACQ says if the cameras were permanent Queensland drivers would have racked up $1 million in fines.

“It’s important every driver in Queensland knows these cameras are out there, anytime and anywhere, and they’ll be used as an enforcement tool when the trial ends at the end of the year.

"If you’re doing the wrong thing you’re likely to be caught.”
