Don’t see these everyday, 250 Bultaco muffler from 1972 in for some resto/mod work, old school styling modified with a modern absorbsion design. These things were a full baffle design originally and fine when fresh and new but fast forward 50+ years and they are borderline unusable due to decades of carbon build up. So stripping them of all the original baffles and packing it together with a perforated tube solves all the problems and obviously makes it easier to repair all those previous nasty 🤮 botched up (my mates got a welding machine, he can fix anything) repairs. I use the term ‘repairs’ very loosely. All sorted and back on the bike and I wouldn’t mind betting it will sound glorious at wot’

Another busy week, trying to clear the rack before the Xmas break.

A few worth mentioning Include;

Little HGS muffler was in need of a tidy up, needed a full rebuild as every rivet had rattled loose.

Couple of glory days CR250 HRC pipes in for a refurbishment, both look awesome now.

……..and a side project for the hauler!

Pretty happy with that, not perfect but all things considered… Rusted, twisted, smashed, butchered and broken. I really don’t think Mr Honda expected these things to survive much more than one race season, but here we are 45 years later.

Love it when something a little bit different comes across the bench.

1st one is a Pro Circuit pipe off a CR500E. Now to be honest I don’t know if there is anything different about the pipe but its nice knowing I’ve helped the owner piece together what is a very unique bike.

2nd one is a vintage FMF system from a mid 80’s CR80. Don’t see these very often and while it’s not in great shape and has had some questionable repairs done in the past but it’s very satisfying to help restore these period correct pipes. Not finished as yet but I thought it was worth putting up some progress pics.

This week's notable restorations include:
1. HGS pipe, previously painted, with minor dents, now cleaned up and looking so much better.
2. Pro Circuit pipe, repaired and refurbished, including chrome chemical removal and works conversion.
3. Another FMF Factory raw pipe, badly beaten up and in very poor condition but now fully restored and looking amazing.
4. Bills Pipe, restored to excellent condition, showcasing the ultimate in handmade cone pipe craftsmanship.

Recently completed a full custom FMF system on this very tidy KDX 250. Brand new FMF gold series pipe but I had to cut and modify the exhaust port fl**ge on the pipe to suit the Australian model cylinder, and a reclaimed FMF muffler modified to suit the pipe and bike subframe. Once all the mods were completed I sent the pipe out to be stripped of the nickel plating then completed the ‘works’ conversion on the pipe, gave the muffler a service including a brand new set of genuine stickers to complete the package. Looks and sounds sensational 🤩
