Today we say farewell to Ted Dowling, a long-serving and highly respected member of the AJL team, retiring today after nearly 36 years of dedicated service.
As one of AJL’s very first employees, Ted joined AJL in October 1989 and over the decades, he has been an integral part of our journey, contributing immensely through his expertise, commitment, and unwavering work ethic.
Affectionately referred to as “Mr Fix It”, Ted has always been there to provide assistance to anyone in need with his deep knowledge of the business and systems.
This, coupled with his unique character, has made him not only a valued colleague but also a true friend to many here at AJL. While we will all miss Ted’s presence in the office, we are also incredibly happy for him as he embarks on this new chapter of life.
Thank you, Ted, for your nearly 36 years of outstanding service — your legacy will certainly live on here at AJL!

You ever wake up thinking about things or find it hard to get to sleep because you are thinking about things???
Well, this is me or us atm!
You may ask, what’s on your mind 🤔 💭
Our Charity Event of course 😏😂
Matt has spoken to the CEO of Burnie Regional Hospital, about our upcoming donation & guess what!?! 🙀
They are actually trying to set up a Head & Neck Cancer Department/Unit/Clinic atm!
Boom 💥
Do you know how much it cost or how much equipment it takes to set up these departments
A lot of💰 💵
With our help & more importantly YOUR HELP we could help them out ENORMOUSLY!!!
This makes me for one, so excited!
Imagine how much further ahead they can be with a donation over $100,000 😳
This WILL CHANGE LIVES!
This WILL SAVE LIVES!!
Do you want to be a part of helping us do this???
Maybe you have Head & Neck Cancer
Maybe someone you know has Head & Neck Cancer
Maybe on day you MAY get Head & Neck Cancer, or your family or friends may get this terrible cancer 🤷‍♀️
Who knows
It can come out of the blue like other cancers unfortunately
Matt never smoked
They don’t know why he got neck cancer & had to have his voice box removed 🤷‍♀️
Matt is a Laryngectomy
A proud Lary & doesn’t let what happened to him hold him back!
It’s definitely tough on Matthew & other Lary’s.
At times he can’t speak & it wears him out to talk to
much. When he does it sometimes isn’t loud enough to be heard or understood. People often speak over him, without meaning too. He has to clean his neck out with a small brush to speak.
He can’t or finds it hard to have a conversation while eating. This can make it hard around the dinner table, especially when entertaining. It’s hard in noisy places for Matt & other Lary’s. He can’t swim or dive anymore 🏊‍♀️️ which he use to LOVE!
One or two tablespoons of water could actually drown him & he has nearly done this a few times 🙈 it’s not nice for him or for me!
He has to get his valve changed every few months as it starts leaking. When it needs changing, fluid runs into his lungs which makes him cough as he’s drinking.
Matthew has learnt to change his own valve these days, so he doesn’t have to go into the hospital each time to get it changed.
Some States still charge Lary’s to buy their gear to actually breath!!!! Can you believe that 😳
The valves are a couple to few hundred dollars each & then there’s the buttons, that help them talk & are their filters to protect their lungs, they cost too!
Luckily, Tassy government now supplies them, but, at the start of Matt’s journey they didn’t. He had to fork out thousands of dollars just to talk & breathe each year. Like I said, unfortunately, there are some states that the Lary’s are still paying for their supplies 😢 hopefully this will change doon 🙏
Matt is a great Ambassador for Head & Neck Cancer & meets up with soon to be Lary’s, to explain & support what’s about to happen. As you could imagine, it’s life changing & very confronting & scary as hell!
He also has been invited to speak at a medical conference recently, explaining about life as a Lary
There are a lot more different type of cancers in the Head & Neck Cancer of course. Laryngectomy is only one
Not only are we aiming to raise funds for the hospital but, we are also trying to raise awareness for this cancer.
You can find more information on the Head and Neck Cancer Australia page
We are raising MUCH NEEDED FUNDS by doing what we & so many of our friends love doing. Getting out in the bush riding trails & tracks on our ATV’s/UTV’s
Buggies & Quads!
This is another area we are trying to make a positive awareness about!
We aren’t a bunch of bogan ferrels out there ripping up the bush. We, like many, love the bush, love the outdoors, love going places & seeing places, places others don’t get a chance to see. Meeting & forming friendships with likeminded people 🥰
Most of us are respectful of the bush, we don’t litter & we do what’s right while we are in the bush. Like everything in life & this world, there are those few that let the team down unfortunately & give us a bad name.
But our main aim is to get out there & enjoy what we do, see many new places, meet new friends, keep tracks open for our fire fighters & simply to love & enjoy life!
Matt, myself & a wonderful crew that support us, combine riding & fundraising together. We have an incredible few days being together riding, making fun memories, new friendships & raising funds to donate back to our public hospitals ♥️
This year, we have included a Raffle for the outsiders to have a chance helping by raising funds, plus have a chance to win a Wolverine RMax Yamaha 4 Seater Buggy valued at $38,000
If you win you can sell it & make a nice profit 🤷‍♀️ or keep it & come join us having fun 🤩
With our charity we try to keep our spending down. In saying that, we do purchase items each year to improve & make it safer for future rides. But generally, we try to hand over as much of the money we raise over to the hospitals.
This year, we do have to pay at cost price for the buggy we are raffling off, then hopefully with YOUR HELP we sell enough tickets to raise extra funds to go towards the end donation 🙏
This is our first of hopefully many years raffling a buggy 🤞
Our Raffle has been registered as well. Unfortunately, registering these things take a lot longer than most people anticipate 🙈 & a lot more paperwork & approvals. So, we haven’t got a number on our tickets or have one at this time. But, believe me, it’s been approved enough to continue selling tickets! It’s atm going through the system 🫤
We have been running this Charity for 6 years now & have handed over more than $200,000 to our public hospitals in both Hobart & Launceston & now Burnie 🙌
Matt, myself & our team spend a great many hours organising this event & fundraiser on our own backs, giving our own time & at times money. We are super proud & passionate of what we have & continue to do.
Hopefully you can support us as well, by buying a ticket or two in our Raffle 🙏🤞
Help support Tasmania Public Hospitals & all Tasmanians by helping us 🥰
You can purchase a ticket by reaching out directly or there are a number of businesses & friends around selling the tickets

Celebrating Milestones at AJL!

In November we celebrated two significant employee milestones at AJL:

Ted’s 35th Anniversary -Ted has been with us since the early days, hired by Andrew himself. Over the years, Ted has worn many hats, earning titles like “The Go-to Man” or “Mr. Fix It.”. Thank you, Ted, for your 35 years of dedication and loyalty to AJL. Your contributions are deeply valued and recognized.

Salty’s 15th Anniversary - Our CFO, John “Salty” Saltmarsh, has been with AJL for 15 years. Salty’s role as CFO and Director has been crucial as AJL has grown and evolved. His voice of reason, sense of humour, and camaraderie are greatly appreciated. Thank you, Salty, for your hard work and commitment.
Congratulations to both Ted and Salty!

Your dedication and contributions make AJL a great place to work.
