The Wooden Boatshop We are experts in building & restoring timber boats. We offer both second-hand couta & wooden boats for sale.

We have a full chandlery with bronze boat fittings & caulking irons. We also design & manufacture wooden flagpoles and provide nautical flags. The Wooden Boatshop occupies 2½ acres in the historic Victorian settlement of Sorrento on Port Phillip Bay, Australia. The business has evolved from a purpose built facility for Couta Boat construction to a complete facility for wooden boat design, construc

Hello WBS Team

Mich and I wanted to write to congratulate you all on the design, construction and delivery of our boat Rhumb Line. The boat is perfect for our needs around the Whitsundays and we look forward to many more miles under her keel. So far we’ve been on 4 expeditions, over 109 nm, around the islands in various weather and she performs flawlessly. The fine bow entry and soft landing in steep waves makes her a real joy to steer, and our guests have been comfortable and very complementary. Joy rides, a swanning trio for a luxury lunch on Daydream Island, and the beginning of some endless snorkelling photography trips have kept us well occupied in between summer showers. We are now on our way back to WA and will leave the boat on her float dock and covered by her lovely all weather cover

Built in 1956 by Alec Lacco, 24’ Vandra was commissioned by Mr Leo Phillips of Portsea, for use as a pleasure craft. The Wooden Boatshop was later founded by Leo’s son, Tim Phillips. Tim remembers days spent aboard Vandra exploring Port Phillips Bay and its surrounds.

Her engine is a Yanmar 30hp, in good condition, with a cruising speed of about 7 knots. Tim and his mother sold Vandra to buy their first H28 in the mid-60’s. She is now offered for sale at a great price. Head to our website for more info
