G’day Friends,
The past seven months have been one heck of an adventure—travelling our incredible country, meeting amazing people, helping where I can, and learning along the way. I’ve been lucky enough to work with other caravan repairers and clients as I go, but mostly, I’ve been reminded why I’ve spent nearly 35 years in this industry—it’s the people that make it worthwhile.
From repairs and manufacturing, showroom and van sales, assistant manager at one of Tassie’s largest caravan businesses, to running my own for 16 years (Bretto’s Caravan Repairs, later The Caravan Man Tassie)—I’ve met some truly genuine, hardworking folks. From business legends helping shape Tasmania to mums and dads doing it all with family in tow, I’m grateful to every single one of you. You’ve made this journey richer than I could ever describe.
Last year, I lost my Dad, my rock, my biggest supporter, and the man who probably secretly knew exactly what I was truly capable of doing when I had doubts. Parkinson’s cruelly stole his dreams of travelling, but inspired by him, I finally decided to chase mine: to explore this amazing country, enjoy the ride, and yes, occasionally get lost just to keep life interesting!
So, if I’m not at work, it’s probably because I’m out exploring, soaking in the views, and still finding ways to help people along the way. Winter might find some of us chasing the sun—but that’s part of the adventure, right?
I’ll be back in October, ready to tackle jobs that have been patiently waiting since May. To all my loyal friends and supporters: thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your trust, friendship, and good humour mean the world. And if you want the owner of the company personally working on your van—someone who’s passionate, experienced, and just a good bloke—give me a call. I’ll make sure your van is looked after like it’s my own.
Thanks for the support, the laughs, and for making this journey so bloody worth it.
With gratitude, warmth, and a smile from the road,
Shane – The Caravan Man Tassie
