Mud build up & what it's doing to your vehicle!
We work on a lot of 4WD's and many of these vehicles operate on mine sites.
Anyone who's had a vehicle on a mine site pretty well knows the environment they are travelling in and knows the mud not washed off dries and sets like concrete.
There's been many a time a good pressure wash still won't remove the dried build up and our fellas are chipping the mud away to try and complete repairs.
Dried mud, whether from 4WDing or from mine sites can have you replacing your brake components on a regular basis if the vehicles aren't being washed thoroughly underneath.
The mud acts like an abrasive contaminate and it also traps moisture, which can lead to rust and corrosion, poor friction and uneven brake wear on your pads & shoes, rotors & drums. If you've driven and felt the steering wheel wobbles or grinding noises, there's a good chance it's caused by the mud build up.
So, best course of action is to wash your vehicle underneath as best as possible, pressure wash if you're able. The cleaner you can keep these components the longer life you'll get out of your braking system!
