Client Spotlight: Koby Bourke | Lil Psycho Lil Psycho Jnr Sprint Boat Race Team

Koby’s journey into jet sprint boat racing is one I’ve been able to witness from the very beginning. I’ve known Koby for a long time, watching him learn the craft of driving in the junior class & quickly develop his feel for the water.

I’ve also known his dad Grant through his long-standing role as Race Director of the AFJSA. So when Grant reached out in late 2023 to build an LS class engine for Koby’s next chapter, it was great to be part of the next stage of his racing journey.

Koby had a Stingray hull & a big step ahead of him. Moving out of juniors & into LS class. I built the engine, supplied the cradle & installed it in the boat. Grant & Koby then took their time getting everything right, with Danny Knappick from KMC Performance finishing the boat off to a great standard.

Koby hit the water for the first time in late 2024, learning the boat, the class & building confidence. Exactly what those early laps needed to be.

Fast forward to the 2025/2026 Australian season & the growth has been something to watch. He started the season well and just kept getting better. Pushing himself, developing his race craft & doing it largely on his own terms. Koby has absorbed every bit of information & applied it on each lap. That’s not something you can teach. That’s just the right kind of attitude & taking the steps to improve.

He finished the season 5th in LS class championship this season. At 17 (almost 18) years old. In his first full season. His future is very bright & we’re proud to play a part in helping the next generation find their feet in this sport.

Koby, you should be an incredibly proud young man. We can’t wait to see what comes next for you & your team.

What a weekend for our JRE teams across the globe. Here’s how our teams went!

Australia 🇦🇺 Final Round of the season

Agrovation Racing : Tyler put together a strong final round, finishing just outside the top 3. Ron had a tougher day, but shook it off like the champion he is.

Lil Psycho : Koby got quicker all day long and was firmly in the mix for a top 6 result before a late DNF. Overall finishing 5th in the championship in LS Class is something to be genuinely proud of.

America 🇺🇸 Round 1 of the season

and Leighton absolutely delivered, both taking 1st place in their respective classes (Unlimited and Group A). Massive congratulations to both crews on a dominant result.

Brendan made the trip over with the Aussie boat but unfortunately customs delays meant race day wasn’t meant to be this time.

A solid weekend across two continents and plenty to be proud of.

Five JRE-powered boats. Two countries. One big weekend ahead.

At home in Australia, Koby and Ron line up for the final round of the Australian Championship at Temora. Koby heads into the weekend sitting 3rd in the LS Class points, so it’ll be a big one to see if he can hold position and finish the season on the podium. Ron has had a consistently strong season, and we’re looking forward to seeing him back on the water for another solid round this Saturday.

Over in the US, three JRE teams are on the water for the opening round of their season at . After a quick visit to Australia last month, River and Leighton are back in the States ready for the opening round this Sunday. Adding to that, Aussie driver Brendan will also make a guest appearance this Sunday, which is great to see.

We’ll be on the ground at Temora on Saturday providing trackside support for Koby and Ron, then switching across Sunday to support the US teams remotely. Two days, two countries, same focus. Making sure each boat is running exactly as it should.

Good luck to everyone, have a great weekend 👊

It was a big weekend in Keith providing trackside support for six JRE-powered teams. Plenty of positives across the board and great to see all the hard work leading into round 5 of the V8 Superboats come together on track.

Pure Insanity | Unlimited Superboats P4 | River Rogers
The boat ran flawlessly all day with no issues. The focus was on getting the jet unit working where we wanted it. We made solid progress and got it as close as possible on the day. River and Cole were excellent, both driving and operating at a very high level. A well-structured team and great to see them in action on Aus soil.

Preventing Insanity | Group A P1 | Leighton Lillie
A standout result for a newly completed package. The boat ran perfectly all day with minimal input required, just monitoring throughout. Great support from Justin Roylance and Mick Little on the day as well. A well-earned win and a snippet into what to expect to see in the US for their upcoming season.

The Girlfriend | Group A P3 | Brendan Doyle
A strong return after five months off the water. Ran the second fastest time of the day and brought it home on the podium in 3rd place. A great result, especially following cylinder head repairs in the lead-up.

Nood Nutz | LS Class P2 & P3 | Matt Malthouse & Mitch Malthouse
Both drivers continued to push each other and work through setup changes on the day. They were happy with the direction they found across the weekend, with strong results to match.

Lil Psycho | LS Class | Koby Bourke
Another step forward for Koby as he continues to improve each round and is building strong consistency. Currently sitting 3rd in the LS Class points and great to see him developing well as a driver.

Agrovation Racing | LS Class | Ron O'Day
Debut for the new engine package. The day started a little off, with an ignition lead issue leaving the engine down a cylinder. Once identified and resolved, the package performed well and showed good signs moving forward.

Overall a solid round for our clients and a great weekend leading into the tail end of the Australian season.

Earlier this week, we were on the water testing with our JRE clients River Rogers, Leighton Lillie, and Brendan Doyle to make sure everything was dialled in ahead of Round 5 of the V8 Superboats in Keith this weekend. Valuable time with the teams and an essential step in our package builds to ensure everything is ready for race day.

It was great to spend time in person with the crews to fine tune the boats before they hit the race track. We’re looking forward to seeing these boats in action on the weekend!

A lot has been happening behind the scenes at JRE over the past few months, with some big hours going into projects in the workshop. Here’s a small snapshot of what we’ve been working on.

The focus has been getting everything ready for our clients ahead of this weekend’s Round 5 of the Australian V8 Superboats Championship in Keith.

We’ve been working closely with our Australian clients, including The Girlfriend V8 Jetsprint team (Brendan Doyle) with engine repairs and full boat reassembly in preparation for race day, along with Agrovation Racing (Ron O’Day) and his brand new LS engine package now ready to hit the water.

Alongside that, we’ve completed a full JRE Racing Solutions Pulse Race Boats package for River Rogers and Leighton Lillie, who have made the trip over from the US to compete this weekend. It’s always rewarding seeing these packages come together and we’re excited to see them on the water alongside our Australian competitors. We’ve got plenty to share from these builds and will take you through the full stories following the weekend.

Team JRE will be in full swing at the track on Saturday, supporting River, Leighton Lillie, Ron, Brendan, Nood Nutz Racing, and Lil Psycho Jnr Sprint Boat Race Team as they line up for what’s shaping up to be a big round.

We’re all set for a huge weekend!

A solid weekend in Griffith for round 4 of the Australian V8 Superboats championship and great to see everyone pushing hard across the day and night.

Koby / Lil Psycho Jnr Sprint Boat Race Team had a standout weekend, bringing it home in 5th in the LS Class. The Griffith track took a bit to get his head around early on, but once he understood how it was behaving, he really started to put some strong runs together. He gave it absolutely everything in the Top 6. Maybe a whisker too much in one corner, but a great save and still a great result. He’s growing with every lap, and it’s been great to be part of that progression so far this season.

Matt / Nood Nutz was on the pace all day and into the night, pushing the boat right to its limits along the way. He was shaping up as a real podium contender, but a small driving error in the Top 6 ultimately kept him out of the Top 3. It was great spending time with him through the night sorting a few gremlins and keeping everything running smoothly.

Plenty of positives to take away from the weekend. Looking forward to what is shaping up to be a big round 5 on March 28th in Keith.

After nearly 14 years in the sport, and team have announced their retirement from jet sprint racing.

Justin has been part of the JRE story since 2016 and has played a huge role in shaping what JRE is today. From late nights in the workshop building his first Group A engine, to World Series campaigns, Australian Championships and everything in between, it’s been an honour to be part of The Outlaw journey.

Across his career, Justin achieved results many racers only dream of. Two-time Australian Champion, World #3 and consistently one of the most competitive and respected drivers in the sport. But beyond the trophies and titles, what stands out most is the way he carried himself. Honest, hardworking, fiercely competitive and always willing to back those around him.

Justin has been more than a client to us. He’s been a supporter of JRE from the early days, a sounding board and a mate. We’re incredibly grateful for the trust he placed in us over the years and proud to have been alongside him through some of the biggest moments of his racing career.

To Justin, Bree, Macey, Eliza, Georgie and the entire Outlaw crew, congratulations on an incredible chapter. Thank you for the memories, the laughs, the hard work and the friendship.

Whatever the next chapter brings, we wish you all the very best. And while the helmets might be coming off, our support and friendship don’t stop here. We’ll always be in your corner.

From JRE & the entire extended James family.

A productive weekend in New Zealand supporting the final stages of the Poison Ivy Jet Sprint Super Boat Pulse Race Boats JRE Racing Solutions package.

With a tight turnaround to get this boat completed and shipped in time for Round 2 of the New Zealand Jetsprint Association it was important to be on the ground ahead of race week. The focus was making sure Rob was comfortable in the boat and any potential gremlins were identified and sorted before race day.

Great to get quality time on the water, confirm everything is working as intended and head into race week with confidence. Looking forward to seeing Poison Ivy hit the track on Dec 27.
