Most people think a hose clamp is “just a clamp.” Wrong.

On turbo cars, these spring-lock fittings are designed to HOLD BOOST PRESSURE without blowing apart under load. One bad seal, one loose clip, and you’re losing performance fast.

That’s why we check every connection properly - not just the obvious fault.

SUNDAY NIGHT RIG REGRET.

It’s real.

Usually kicks in somewhere between packing up camp and getting home Sunday night.

Common symptoms include:

* The auxiliary battery gave up halfway through the weekend.
* The fridge wasn’t quite as cold as you thought it was.
* Towing the boat reminded you that you STILL haven’t fitted that brake controller.
* Reversing into that tight spot would’ve been a whole lot easier with a camera.
* Setting up after dark involved a phone torch, some colourful language and a promise to install proper lighting.
* Everyone else had UHF. You had hand signals.
* You dropped your tyre pressures for the tracks… then remembered you don’t have onboard air.
* You discovered there are never enough 12V or USB outlets when everyone wants to charge something.
* The trailer plug chose this weekend to start playing up.
* You spent way too much time worrying about how much battery you had left.
* That solar setup suddenly isn’t looking quite big enough.

And somewhere on the drive home you said the magic words:

“𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁. 𝗜’𝗺 𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽.” 😂

That’s where our auto sparkies come in.

Dual batteries, lithium, DC-DC charging, solar, inverters, brake controllers, Anderson plugs, UHF, driving lights, cameras, onboard air, canopy power, Starlink power, towing electrics and plenty more.

You probably don’t need all the gear.

But the right gear can make the difference between spending your weekend solving problems… and actually enjoying it.

What did your rig make you wish you had this weekend?

A drive belt can look fine… right up until you look closely.

During a routine service on this Honda Civic, Luke spotted small cracks running through the drive belt.

From a distance? It looked okay.

Up close? It was ready for replacement.

And while a drive belt might seem like a small part, if it fails it can cause much bigger problems.

Depending on the vehicle, the drive belt can help power your:

❌ Alternator — potentially leaving you with a flat battery
❌ Power steering pump — which can affect steering
❌ Water pump — which can lead to engine overheating

That’s exactly why regular servicing matters.

It’s not just about changing oil and filters.

It’s about inspecting the whole vehicle and catching wear before it turns into a breakdown.

✅ Cracked belt identified
✅ New belt fitted
✅ One less problem for the owner to worry about

Small part. Important job.

If your vehicle is due for a service, get it checked properly.

Your turbo loses power LONG before it completely fails.

This Renault came in leaking oil everywhere… turns out the intercooler had a pinhole leak after nearly 200,000km. Less efficiency. Less power. Bigger problems coming.

We replaced the intercooler, tested everything, and got it back running properly

Two Sparkies. Two Rigs. Let’s See What Happens. 😂 😆 😅 🤭

Give an auto electrician a 4WD and apparently there’s always just one more thing that could be added.

And to be fair… they’re usually right.

There are plenty of ways to trick out your rig that don’t just look good — they can make towing, touring, camping and 4WDing safer, easier and a whole lot more enjoyable.

Think:

• Dual battery and lithium setups
• DC-DC chargers
• Solar and inverters
• Electric brake controllers
• Anderson plugs and towing electrics
• UHF radios
• Driving lights and light bars
• Reverse and rear-view cameras
• Dash cams
• Tyre pressure monitoring systems
• Onboard air compressors
• 12V, USB and USB-C power outlets
• Fridge wiring and power upgrades
• Canopy power systems
• Starlink power setups
• Work and camp lighting
• Trailer plugs and connections
• And all those other little electrical additions you suddenly realise you “definitely need”.

You don’t need every gadget known to man. The trick is setting up your vehicle for how you actually use it.

Towing the van around Australia? Weekend camping? Beach runs? Heading properly off-grid? Or just want a 4WD that’s better set up for the adventures you throw at it?

A good auto electrical setup can make a massive difference.

So, what’s the one upgrade your rig absolutely has to have?

Is your car leaking oil? This could be why. This is what Luke found in this Honda Civic

“Good morning, everyone. Luke here from Sandgate Auto Electrics & Automotive Services.

This morning, I’m repairing an oil leak on this Honda Civic. The oil was leaking from between the cylinder head and the tappet cover, or rocker cover—whichever you prefer to call it.

The leak was caused by this gasket. Due to its age, the rubber has become hard and brittle. It can no longer expand and contract properly as the engine’s temperature changes, allowing oil to leak down the side of the engine.

This is what the gasket should look like. As you can see, the rubber is flexible, so it can move and create a proper seal. It also has raised ridges along it. These ridges are compressed against the cylinder head to form the seal.
On the old gasket, those ridges have become completely flat, so it can no longer seal properly.

We’re going to clean the area, install the new gasket, torque everything to the correct specifications and clean the leaked oil from the side of the engine. Once that’s done, the client will be good to go.
Thank you.”
