Hot weather is tough on car batteries — and it's actually worse for them than cold weather.

Heat speeds up the chemical reaction inside a battery, which sounds helpful but actually causes it to wear out faster. A battery that's borderline in winter can fail completely when summer heat hits.

We test battery health as part of our standard service inspection. If yours is on the way out, we'll show you the reading and give you the option — no pressure. Much better to know now than find out when you turn the key on a 38-degree afternoon.

Did you know your tyres have an expiry date — even if the tread still looks fine?

Rubber dries out and cracks from the inside over time, especially in Queensland heat. Most manufacturers recommend replacing tyres after 5–6 years regardless of tread depth. You can check the age yourself: look at the sidewall of your tyre for a 4-digit number starting with "DOT". The last four digits tell you the week and year it was made — for example, "2419" means week 24 of 2019.

If your tyres are pushing 5 years old, it's worth having them inspected even if they look okay on the surface.

Here's a simple one to check at home: look at your windscreen washer fluid. Not just whether there's fluid in there, but whether it's the right stuff.

Plain water might seem fine, but in summer it evaporates faster, doesn't clean as well in the heat, and can actually leave mineral deposits on your windscreen over time. A proper washer fluid cleans better and handles the temperature.

Small thing — but clear vision when the sun's glaring off a wet road at 7am matters a lot.
