2026 marks 60 years of Australian decimal currency and to celebrate the Royal Australian Mint has released a new one-dollar coin featuring six kangaroos.

However the original 1984 "Mob of Roos" one-dollar coin (with five kangaroos), still holds a monumental place in Australian numismatic history as the very first $1 coin issued into circulation in Australia. The coin was struck thicker to avoid confusion with the 10c with the edge design alternating between seven smooth and seven milled segments was crafted so it could easily identify by touch.
