Something a little different in the shop this weekend 🤙

We had the boys from Joel Buettel Racing bring their wingless in for a quick run on the dyno to chase down a misfire before the next race.

Then our good mate Charles Copland from Track Industries had one of his customers bring their off-road truck in to get stuck into.

We’ve got a few wiring gremlins to sort out, give it a quick tune-up and get stuck into the 8HP conversion that Charles has supplied and the cusromer fitted

Plenty going on with this one already and it’s definitely going to be a cool little project.

Keep your eyes on this one guys, it’s gonna be a ripper 🤙

Again thank you everyone for your continued support. This is shaping up to be something i never dreamed it would be

Cheers 🍻

Today's topic what grinds my gears
Today's gear grinding is brought to you by UNICLUTCH or formally known as MANTIC and the absolute p**s poor parts suppliers and performance shops fitting them. This is hands down the worst failure I have seen that falls under there rated power for the clutch.
This could have ended in a lost limb or life if it went through the bellhousing
Please guys dont use these. Stick with the brands we know and trust
NPC performance clutches or malwoods.
Cheers

💥 BARRA CRANK DOWELLING — NOW AVAILABLE AT LUKE DAVIS MECHANICAL 💥

Building a serious Barra? Making big boost and big torque? Then this is something you should be thinking about BEFORE the crank/flexplate interface becomes a problem.

🔩 BARRA CRANK DOWELLING

At high power levels, the amount of cylinder pressure and torque being transferred through the crank and flexplate/flywheel can put a serious load on the crank-to-flexplate/flywheel locating system.

The factory bolts are designed to clamp the components together, but under extreme torque, repeated hard launches, high boost and aggressive use, the joint can experience movement and fretting.

Once that starts happening, things can go downhill quickly — damaged bolt holes, movement between the crank and flexplate/flywheel and, in severe cases, significant damage to the crankshaft and driveline.

That's where proper crank dowelling comes in. 🔥

We use Atomic's custom in-car crank dowelling tool to accurately machine the crank and install the dowels without removing the engine from the car.

That means you can add another layer of protection to a high-power Barra without pulling the entire engine out just to have the crank machined.

Perfect for:

🔥 Big-power turbo Barra
🔥 E85 & high-boost combinations
🔥 Drag & roll racing
🔥 Drift cars
🔥 Hard-launched street cars
🔥 ZF / 8HP conversions
🔥 Anyone who'd rather prevent a problem than fix one

If you're building a Barra capable of making serious torque, don't overlook the connection between the crank and flexplate/flywheel.

Build it once. Build it properly. 💪

📩 Barra crank dowelling now available at Luke Davis Mechanical.

Our Track Industries gearbox adaptor has arrived. Tailshaft is being made next week. Shifter is mounted
Over the next month this will be fitted into our shop car and then testing begins. Big things coming as I will be offering a complete drive in drive out 8HP conversion.
So many options available with this kit and we will be able to tailor this to your needs.

Have come to the realisation that I suck at social media 🤣 Maybe that’s why I don’t get all the business… but what I do get, I look after as if it’s my own 👌

We’ve been pretty busy down here lately, so here’s a quick update for everyone.

🔧 Jack Rees dropped his BF XR8 off for one of our transmission cooler kits and a tune. Managed to pick up another 30hp with just a little tickle, with the factory cats and poorly made catback exhaust currently holding us back.

🏁 Crossy’s FG Turbo IRS drift ute was squeezed in before his drift event. Gave it a tickle and ended up just shy of 400kw on a safe 15psi. Plenty more left in it, but the goal was to get him to the event with a safe and reliable setup.

⛽ Ćashlan Ŕeeves EF XR6 wagon came in with a drivability issue that no one had been able to figure out. We put it on the dyno and found it was running extremely lean through the cruise areas. After some testing, we fitted a new standard replacement fuel pump, ran it up again and finished with a wild 155kw from the pretty well standard SOHC.

Among all that, there’s been a whole host of other jobs happening too — everything from 4WDs to general servicing and everything in between.

And there’s some BIG things coming 👀

We’re getting close to the end of our 8HP conversion on the shop car, with the help of Track Industries. Charles will be remoting in over the next few weeks to dial the transmission tune in, then we’ll be heading out to a few roll racing events to see how it performs.

Once we’re happy with it and have put it through its paces, the plan is to offer the 8HP conversion as a drive-in, drive-out service. 🍻

I honestly can’t thank you guys enough for all the support you continue to give us. Every job, every recommendation, every share and every bit of support means a lot.

Here’s to the future and plenty more to come. 🍻

I am eternally grateful to everyone here for supporting me and making my business what it is
I'm taking some time to finish some jobs and get the shop car up and running so I can hopefully attend some roll racing events
