First full colour job through the new Steel & Speed Customs spray booth, and it’s come up mint. 👌

All credit to Heath on his Walkinshaw ‘plastic pig’. He’s put a massive amount of time into the bodywork and paint so far, and the results speak for themselves.

It was great to be able to return the favour and give him the booth to get his own car finished after he put a heap of time into helping get the new booth assembled, wired and operational.

Pretty satisfying for us as well to finally see a complete colour job come out of the new booth and see what it’s capable of producing.

And Heath, if you ever decide to give up the day job, I reckon Steel & Speed Customs could find a bit of work for you. 😂

Awesome effort mate — it’s come up unreal. 🤙😎

Darren’s HR Holden is making solid progress and has now moved into the body preparation stage.

With all of the rust repairs and metal fabrication now completed, the project is now transitioning into body preparation and paint. Jordan has been busy preparing the underside while the shell moves through the next phase of the restoration.

It’s always satisfying reaching this stage of a build. Months of rust repairs, fabrication and welding are now behind us, and the HR is well on its way to its next chapter. Looking forward to sharing more progress as it continues.

Nick’s GU Nissan is back from
The cab and panels has been media blasted, thoroughly blown out, cleaned, sanded, and sealed in epoxy primer. It’s now protected and ready for the radiator support to go on, followed by some minor rust repairs.
One step closer to getting this build back for Nick to continue with the chassis and Cummins engine fit up. 💪🚙

Ryley’s Troopy came in for roof and gutter rust repairs, along with rust repairs around the window surrounds. As is often the case with older vehicles, once the paint and outer skins were stripped back we uncovered additional hidden rust lurking between panel joins and beneath previous repairs.

All affected areas were fully stripped, cut out, and repaired. New sections were fabricated where required.
Once the rust repairs were completed, the remaining body and paintwork were carried out.
The Troopy is now back with Ryley to complete the final fitment of new side glass and finish off the interior setup, ready for many more outdoor adventures.

Darren’s HR sedan is one of the cleanest shells we’ve seen in a long time, it’s still got some rust here and there to deal with and a few old repairs from back in the day but the difference is what’s not there. No layers of body filler, no dodgy work hiding bigger problems, just honest metal that needs the right attention.
It spent years sitting in the shed on the family farm in its original paint. Now it’s had a proper reset — back from blasting, doors prepped and in epoxy, and finally at the stage where we can move forward properly.

Andy’s EH ute has been in the workshop for a while, sitting on the back burner while higher priority jobs moved through.

The original plan was to tackle a few outer body rust repairs, but once we got into it, it was clear the real issues ran deeper. Old rust repairs on top of old rust repairs through the main rails and crossmembers.

So we changed direction, rails and crossmembers were rebuilt, bringing everything back to a solid, straight structure.
Andy and his dad had already made a solid start on the floorpans and a few other areas, so we worked around that and focused on getting the foundation of the car right.

Now it’s back to where it should be, strong, straight, and ready to head home for Andy to carry on with the next stage of the build.

Nick’s got some pretty cool plans for his GU Nissan ute, he’s already got the vision and the project started, first up it’s in to us at Steel & Speed Customs to get the body under way.
The radiator support had already been removed by the previous owner so firstly we’ve fabricated some new panels and welded them in so we can get the rad. support welded back on. Once that’s done we can take the cab off the chassis and continue with other rust and minor repairs here and there. Nicks plan is to have a colour change a little down the track and fit a Cummins 5.9lt so this will be a beast when it’s on or off the road!!! 🤙😎😎

Mark’s farm-fresh FJ ute has come in for some rust treatment. While there is some significant rust in the cabin floors, sills, and rails, the old FJ is actually in fairly good condition for its age.

The goal for this build is to retain the original patina rather than carry out a full bare metal restoration. We’ll be carefully cutting out and replacing only the areas required, keeping repairs to a minimum to preserve as much of the vehicle’s original character as possible.

Mark and Sharron’s Hiace camper van recently came in for some TLC addressing minor rust issues around the rear window corner and the right-hand sill. A custom-made water tank had previously been installed with the mount points creating water traps that led to the rust in the sill. To resolve this, new panels were fabricated and welded in place. Additionally, a few modifications were made to the water tank to prevent future water accumulation. With these repairs complete, the van is now ready for many more adventures ahead. 🏖️🚐

John’s F-truck came in so we could suss out the old sunroof fill in repair done years ago, unfortunately it was a very dodgy over lap repair held in with a few tack welds and a lot body filler. Best option was to replace the whole roof skin.
We were able to get inside the frame, clean it all up and seal the inners.
The sides of the cowl also had some pretty subpar rust repairs and a lot of filler. New panels were fabricated and welded in. Time for it to sit and cure before final rub, paint and assemble. 🤙
