What actually happens during a "logbook service"?

It's not just an oil change and a stamp in the book. Or at least, it shouldn't be.

When we do a logbook service, we're checking the specific items the manufacturer says need checking at that exact mileage. But we're also looking at the things they don't mention. The real-world wear and tear that happens when you actually use your 4WD for what it was built for.

Bushes, belts, bearings. The stuff that leaves you stranded if ignored.

A stamp in the book preserves your warranty. The rest of the check preserves your weekend.

It's easy to delay a service when your vehicle seems to be running fine.

But preventative maintenance isn't about fixing what's broken.

It's about identifying wear and tear before it turns into unexpected downtime, costly repairs, or a vehicle that's not ready when you need it most.

Regular servicing helps protect your investment and keeps your 4WD performing the way it should.

The real cost of "I know a guy who can do it cheaper."

We see the aftermath of this at least twice a month in wiring that looks like a bird's nest, suspension lifts that rub on full lock or accessories bolted into panels that were never meant to hold weight.

Paying for it twice is always more expensive than doing it right the first time. If you're going to trust someone with your 4WD, make sure they actually know what they're doing.

The bits of Cody's review we're going to print out and stick on the workshop wall...

"They took their time with my service and I didn't feel like my car was just rushed in and out like at other places."

"I ended up spending less than I thought I would."

"I didn't mind waiting knowing that my car was getting the care it needed."

This is exactly what we're trying to do every day. Thanks Cody. The coffee's on us next time.

The honest answer to "do I actually need a remap?"

Mostly, no.

If your 4WD is a daily driver, never tows, never loads up, and you're happy with how it runs, save your money.

You might want one if:
* You tow regularly and the engine feels like it's working too hard
* Your fuel economy has dropped and you can't pinpoint why
* You drive long distances loaded and want a smoother experience
* You want better throttle response on a heavy diesel

We've talked plenty of people out of remaps. We're not here to upsell. We're here to tell you the truth and let you decide.

From servicing and diagnostics through to performance upgrades and preventative maintenance, a little attention now can help avoid bigger issues later.

At Johnson’s 4WD, we focus on real-world reliability and quality workmanship that suits how you actually use your vehicle.

If your 4WD has been needing attention, now’s the time to get it sorted before the second half of the year kicks in.

The CQ tyre pressure cheat sheet. Save this one.

A rough guide for the terrain you actually hit around here.

* Bitumen: 32 to 38 PSI (check your placard)
* Dirt and gravel: 28 to 30 PSI
* Beach and soft sand: 15 to 18 PSI
* Heavy mud: 18 to 22 PSI
* Rocky or corrugated: 22 to 26 PSI

Two reminders most people forget:
* Air back up before you hit the bitumen. Soft tyres overheat fast.
* Carry a compressor. Asking your mate isn't a plan.
