Heavy Rigid (HR)
A HR licence is an excellent standard licence to have and is used widely throughout many industries. It covers all licence grades underneath (LR and MR) as well as most undefined vehicles (Mobile cranes over 4.5 tonnes). A HR licence is typically required for transportation, mining, council and trade work.

Gaining your HR licence will allow you to drive any motor vehicle that has 3 or more axles and has a gross vehicle mass greater than 8 tonnes.

How long do I have to have my licence for before I can obtain a HR Licence?
In QLD, an applicant must have held either their MR licence for 12 months OR their car licence for 24 months.

Our next Operate & Maintain 4WD will be held Tue, 7 Apr 2026 and has two spots remaining! Book with a friend and have fun learning to operate and maintain a 4WD vehicle safely and effectively under a range of off-road conditions!

Some of the topics covered include:
- Operating 4WD vehicles in a safe manner
- Carry out 4WD vehicle recovery operations
- Operate 4WD on, or across, a slope
- Operate 4WD ascending a steep slope, including stall recovery
- Operate 4WD descending a steep slope, including stall recovery
- Operate vehicle in rugged terrain
- Negotiate water crossings
- Operate a jack efficiently
- Recovery of vehicle in various situations

This course is designed to equip you with the knowledge and skill to handle a variety of situations and help you be prepared for the unexpected!

We recently had Sienna Mallon in at AHVDT with the determination of being QLD's (& NT's) next best truck driver!
Sienna set her sights on obtaining her unrestricted HR licence and there was no stopping her!
Unfortunately, things don't always go to plan first time around however that didn't knock her down, she was straight back in the seat and aced it!!
