We know that sometimes a roadworthy inspection can uncover things you weren’t expecting — and we understand it can be frustrating when your vehicle doesn’t pass.

But there’s a very important reason we don’t cut corners, overlook defects or “let things slide.”

A roadworthy inspection is about vehicle safety — not simply getting a piece of paper so the vehicle can be registered or sold.

When we inspect a vehicle, we take the time to thoroughly check the components that affect its safety and roadworthiness, including:

🔧 WHY WE PROVIDE ESTIMATES — NOT QUOTES 🔧

Here’s a perfect example of why mechanical work can sometimes be difficult to put an exact price or timeframe on before we get into the job.

We recently had a job that was expected to be around a 2-hour job. Sounds straightforward, right? 👀

Unfortunately, once we got into it, we discovered a seized glow plug.

What should have been a relatively quick job turned into 2 days of careful work to remove the seized component without causing further damage to the engine.

This is exactly why we provide ESTIMATES rather than fixed quotes for many mechanical repairs.

⚙️ The reality of mechanical work:

Some problems aren't visible until parts are removed.
Components can be seized, corroded or damaged.
Older vehicles can present unexpected issues.
Removing a seized component can require additional time and specialised techniques.
Forcing a part out can sometimes cause significantly more expensive damage.

Our goal isn't to make a job take longer or add unnecessary costs. It's to diagnose the problem properly, communicate with the customer and do the job correctly.

When unexpected issues arise, we'll keep you informed and discuss the options before proceeding with additional work wherever possible.

💡 An estimate is our best assessment based on what we can see at the time — but sometimes the vehicle has other plans!

🔧 BRAKE CHECKS – IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT HOW MUCH PAD IS LEFT! 🚗💨

Here’s a great example of why a proper brake inspection is more than simply looking through the wheel and checking the thickness of the brake pads.

When inspecting a braking system, there are several important things we look at:

🛑 Brake pad condition & wear – Pads should be wearing evenly. Uneven wear can indicate a problem with the caliper, slides or other components.

🔩 Caliper operation – The caliper needs to move and operate correctly so the pads apply and release evenly.

⚙️ Caliper slides & boots – Corrosion, seized slides or damaged boots can cause the brakes to drag or wear unevenly.

💿 Brake rotor condition – We check for excessive wear, scoring, corrosion and other damage to the braking surface.

🔍 Brake hardware – Clips, springs and other hardware also need to be in good condition and correctly positioned.

A vehicle can still have plenty of brake pad material but that doesn't necessarily mean the braking system is healthy.

Regular brake inspections can help identify problems early, before they turn into expensive repairs — or compromise your safety.

🚗 If your brakes are squealing, grinding, pulling to one side, getting hot, or wearing unevenly, get them checked.

🔥 PROJECT SONIC — BARRA SWAP UPDATE #4 🔥

IT’S ALL HAPPENING! 👀🔧

We’re getting stuck into the fitment side of the Barra swap and starting to make everything work together.

At this stage, it’s all about modifying, measuring and getting the positioning right. We’ve been making adjustments to get the engine sitting exactly where we need it, including cutting and modifying the engine mounts to achieve the correct position and clearance.

There’s plenty of trial fitting, measuring and fabrication involved to make sure everything lines up properly before we lock it all in. 🔩🛠️

This is where the project really starts to take shape!
