Day 5:

Tooleybuc to Geelong (spirit of Tasmania),

Nice easy day today, all bitumen heading towards Geelong. Dress up today was pirates so we could take over the ferry ⛴. Had to stop into a car wash to get all the red dirt and mud off of the car for Tasmania’s strict bio security measures. We passed a big Murray cod sculpture which was also pretty cool.

The merc had one issue today when the rear main seal let go and was dripping oil onto the exhaust, causing a plume of white smoke under the car. We managed to sort it out by topping up the oil with some stop leak and had no dramas since.

Another slight issue of the day was when the brakes decided to fail twice - was sucking air and losing pressure, but also managed to sort that by patching the hole and refilling the fluid.

Apart from that smooth sailing for the mighty merc!

Day 4:

Cobar to tooleybuc,

Only a little bit of dirt today, a lot of highway km’s and the merc did fantastic. Managed to get a photo at the bridge where we cross from nsw to Victoria. Have a big day tomorrow to try and get to Geelong and on the spirit of Tasmania.

Day 3:

Heading from eulo to Cobar, 470k’s of dirt, a lot nicer than the last two days. Once again the mighty Mercedes’ 190e had no issues whatsoever and took the punishment like a champion.

Managed to stop in to the hungerford and the Louth pubs to have a look and rehydrate.

Heaps of bulldust and Ruts the whole way. Dealing with the dust and keeping spacing up was definitely important.

That brings us to where we are now, getting prepped for an easy drive from Cobar to tooleybuc, crossing over the nsw to Victoria border.

Day 2:

Started from tambo heading towards eulo, merc ran absolutely sweet the whole way no issues what so ever. Quite a few head of cattle on the road and some slow parts. 500k’s of dirt and two minor creek crossings (videos coming after post).

We realised that we are quite low to the ground so a fair bit of scraping through on the rocks - we’re very glad we installed a bash plate to protect the sump.

End of day two and so far 4 cars are irreparable and left behind, our buddy group still holding strong with minor issues.

Heading from Rockhampton to Tambo

The mighty merc had no dramas the whole time on the bitumen - but managed one little bellyache during the dirt section on the Dawson developmental road. We managed to crack our ignition lead on cylinder 4 developing a misfire, however luckily we had a spare lead so threw that on and kept moving.

Apart from that we had some water crossing and set up camp for the night at the Tambo racecourse.
