Sad days ahead!
Great work, Bellingen Shire Council.
Then we wonder why younger people end up taking racing, drifting and car culture onto public streets when legitimate, controlled motorsport venues are continually made harder and harder to operate.
Raleigh has been part of the local community for decades and has brought competitors, spectators, families and businesses into the area. That means money spent at local accommodation, fuel stations, pubs, restaurants, workshops, tyre shops and countless other small businesses.
Now we are watching people lose work, businesses struggle and an established motorsport venue face an increasingly uncertain future.
Places like Raleigh should be seen as part of the solution. They provide a controlled environment where people can participate in motorsport safely, rather than pushing that culture back onto public roads.
It is extremely disappointing to see a facility with this much history and community value placed under this level of pressure.
Shire Council, the community deserves a clear, practical and workable pathway that allows legitimate motorsport to continue at Raleigh while meeting reasonable regulatory requirements.
Once venues like this disappear, they are almost impossible to replace — and the entire region loses.
