They're very late. But we saved the best for last. ✨

They took a lot more time, effort and extra expertise than anything we originally planned. But if it wasn't for the setbacks, they wouldn't have turned out as special.

Solid aluminium. Beautifully finished by arguably the best aluminium restoration specialists in Melbourne. These overshot even our expectations ❤️

(If you're waiting on one of those, we'll get in touch over the weekend to finalize the orders).

Remanufactured batch just arrived and looking great!

Really happy with the consistent sandblasted finish, plus the black is darker and glossier.

Will get in touch with everyone who's order we have, to start taking payments and finalising orders.

Received half our plastic/black Nylon orders end of last week. For some reason - slightly different to the 3 rounds of prototypes we've had so far.

Probably not noticeable for most people, but we're currently speaking with the manufacturer to see if they can squeeze out slightly higher quality.

If you're happy to wait a little longer - we'll update as soon as new batch is here and inspected.

Aluminium parts will also be coming with the new batch. Being a more expensive product, we wanted to make sure any potential issues are ironed out with the Nylon first.

Thank you for your patience! We're pretty excited about the quality we've seen in the previous orders, and hoping that you're as impressed with it once it's in your hands. ✨

Very quick update!

Had a slight delay on the manufacturers' end - the final prototypes only arrived a few days ago (we were hoping to have them early last week).

It was worth the wait, as the delay was due to making sure the quality was up to form.

Absolutely in love with the finish on the black pieces; the solid-ness and weight of the aluminium mount is very fancy... (for a laugh we also experimented with a clear-plastic mount, which actually came out beautifully 😍)

Ordering the full production run this weekend. Once the mounts arrive - we'll do another update, ask for full payments and start shipping them out.

We'll get in touch with everyone over the next few days, to make sure everyone is on the same page. If you have any questions, please let us know! 😁

𝐀 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞. 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠. 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧.

We’ve got the first group's numbers roughly finalised. We'll start taking deposits now, and place our orders end of this week

If you’ve expressed interest, and we haven’t contacted you by the 25th Feb - please get in touch. Orders will close 26th Feb (this Sunday).

𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠

We’ve got a fair bit of interest in THIS group buy - so:

- The black plastic holder price is coming down to $80 + $10 shipping Australia wide. (That's $55USD + $17USD for international shipping.)

- The Aluminium holder will come down to $150AUD ($105USD). Same shipping.

- We’re also looking into a cheaper, slightly lower-quality alternative. Testing will take ~4 weeks. There is a good chance it won’t be up to our standards…👀 no guarantees at this point.

Future group buys may have higher pricing, so if you’re on the fence - it’s potentially a good idea to jump on now, rather than miss out.

𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧

Even with extensive prototyping, there are always improvements to be made. The OEM fuel door sticker was peeking out from behind our cap holder. As nice as the holder was, the sticker took away from the OEM+ look. So we killed it. And then just covered it up... 🙊

It’s basically the same beautiful holder, now with our logo on the side, covering up the remainder of the sticker. Looks great, and no need to peel factory stickers.

(If you liked the previous design - let us know, we can still supply it for you.)

The new design also opens up space for...

𝐂𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭?!

It is very cool to have a few S402 owners in the group buy. Even a few replica S402s (putting two aside for James and Paul). A number of tbSti owners have also requested the “Sti” logo.

Those two logos are already drawn up, and free to add to your order. Custom text will cost an additional $10.

If you would like something written - please specify during your order/deposit. Be as specific as possible. Text, size, font, etc. We’ll do our best to make it work nicely.

𝐏𝐚𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐓𝐀

Cash on pick up or Bank Transfer are preferred. PayPal is fine, please don’t forget they have a 3% processing fee.

We’re hoping to get the orders shipped out by the 12th of March (~2 weeks from now). We’ll contact you for full payment once we have the parts in our hands.

Ok! *wipes sweat off brow* That just about covers it.

Please get in touch by the 26th Feb to place your orders and deposits. We can’t guarantee pricing or wait times for any future group runs.

You spoke. We listened.

Let’s address the two main points of feedback - “price could be lower” and “someone already makes this for $20”.

𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞

We’re waiting, and working on bringing it down. It will depend on pre-order numbers.

How can you help? “Price needs to be lower” - by itself isn’t a helpful comment. Obviously, that would always be great.

If you’re interested - please let us know 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 what price you’re hoping for. Is your price point $50? Are you more interested in pure function? Happy to sacrifice some finish quality? Maybe for those people, we need to look at cheaper manufacturing methods.

“𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 $𝟐𝟎”

There seems to be a misunderstanding here. Unlike the Etsy links shared to us - our design is not a free file off Thingyverse. And we are not 3D printing it in our bedroom.

If someone is satisfied with stringy layer lines, bare-minimum material and a free public file being printed for $2 - that’s ok. Please understand that it’s a different level of product.

We love our FDM 3D printer, although we mostly use it for prototyping. For us personally, it doesn’t feel right to ask people to run a cheap, rough, prototype-like product on their pride-and-joy.

We get excited about delivering a high-quality, uncommon product. We’re aiming for injection-moulding or aluminium cast quality, at much smaller run numbers. Nobody else is doing that.

Hopefully that clears the air. We’re not trying to sell a $20 product for $100. We’re trying to deliver something that would normally cost $150-200, or require 100+ unit runs, down to $80-100.

We’ll be running a poll, to zone in on exactly what you guys to are hoping to get, and how we can achieve it. Keep an eye out 🙂

Hey guys, we’re pretty excited about this one. Finally something nice to hold your Gen4 Liberty/Legacy fuel cap, while you fill up.

The OEM strap was an afterthought. A trinket instead of a fix. It either dangles the cap against your car’s paintwork, or it snaps completely.

Our criteria for a proper solution:
- Holds the cap safely, away from scuffing paint
- Quick to use. Simple to install.
- Lasts the life of the vehicle
- Stands up to any climate (hot or cold, wet or dry)
- Be chemically resistant (fuel, oil, solvent, water, salt, etc)
- Nice to look at. A quality piece in presentation, as well as function

After a number of designs, prototyping, testing and going through various manufacturing and material options - this holder ticks all the boxes. It’s very satisfying to so easily hang the cap (and very nice to feel and look at 😅😍).

𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭. 𝐏𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐭 𝐮𝐬 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐝 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞. If we get enough numbers we may be able to bring the prices down.

Options are as follows:

𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 - 𝐀𝐔𝐃$𝟗𝟗 ($20 deposit, to secure yours in 2-5 weeks)

If you want to get even fancier, we can also make them in Aluminium:

𝐀𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐮𝐦, 𝐫𝐚𝐰 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡 - 𝐀𝐔𝐃$𝟏𝟔𝟓 ($65 deposit)

Australian members - allow +$10 shipping Aus-wide. International - please DM us for a quote.
..

We’ll be making a few more posts about these. Please follow our Borsch Power page, so you don’t miss the updates.

𝐢𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝟐/𝟐 - 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭!

In the last few years OEM LED headlights have really reached a level of their own. 2020+ Subaru LED headlights blow our 2009 lights out of the water (see photos).

It's been said that OEM had the highest quality LEDs; that there was no way for aftermarket to match that kind of output…

But Alex at iilumo dug around their secret stash and found something pretty special. High-performance LED projectors that put out even more light than Subaru OEM 2020+ units! 😮

The new lights were aligned somewhat low during the photos, but you get the idea. The cut-off is super crisp. The output - ridiculous. Factory auto-levelling still fully-functional. The BORSCHE finally has modern headlights again.
..

Part 1 was a wordy, nostalgic dive into the history, motivations and aesthetics of the Borsche. Part 2 is purely performance. Enjoy the photo dump!

𝐢𝐢𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐨 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝟏/𝟐 - "𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡"

Another big project finally complete. It’s been many years since I’ve had the idea to “fix” the gen4 postFL headlight, by converting the parking light lens into a proper, evenly lit DRL.

… [𝟏𝟎 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐨] …

I remember my first experience with a cool gen4 Liberty. The year was 2011. A colleague at our office owned a black 2007 tbSti sedan. At the time, it was a very cool-looking car. There wasn’t really anything like it from other OEMs. And boy, did it present well. The Obsidian Black paint was still fresh and glossy. As were the charcoal, racecar-inspired 18" tbSti Enkeis. Quad exhaust and low front lip left no room for doubt in my just-out-of-highschool mind: this was basically the batmobile.

Once or twice, the planets aligned - we both left the office at the same time and commuted home from the city. Me on a brand new, red 250cc Hyosung GT-R, and him in the turbo Liberty. Picking apart the relatively light traffic on the Monash (“weather it was right or wrong” [sic]) I remember looking into my rearview mirror and seeing this dark car with two little ‘teeth' lit up in the headlights. DRLs in headlights were not yet a thing. Even at 2-300m away, as a tiny spec in my mirror, there was nothing quite like it.

The following year I bought my very own Newport Blue 2007 GT Premium, without even realising it was the same car as the “cool black car” from the office! The platform must have resonated with me on multiple different levels… but let’s stay on the topic of headlights 😁

Some of my first mods were LED parker bulbs. I absolutely loved the shape of the ‘tooth’, and the way it would light up. Changing it from yellow to white added at least 10 style points. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Automotive LEDs at the time were still underdeveloped (read: “rubbish”). The surface diodes on the bulbs I got from Leo Chu (the OG club.liberty light man) would frequently burn out, decreasing the light output, or outright killing the ‘tooth'. I tried buying some expensive JDM LEDs from Japanparts, but that style only had front-facing diodes - they just turned the ‘tooth' into a bright ‘dot’. The rest of the lens wasn’t even lit.

Luckily phone cameras were total potatoes at the time - and the light spread would always appear nice and even in photos. In reality the sensor was just washed out. 🙈 (attached a 2012 potato pic of my GT)

… [𝟓 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐨] ...

Let’s skip over the next 4-5 years, where I was busy blowing through 3-4 EJ25 head gaskets and 2 5EAT gearboxes. It was 2017 and I got in touch with an Adelaide-based custom headlight shop about “fixing” the postFL gen4 ‘tooth’. My idea was to create an evenly-lit lens, instead of having a hotspot in the centre, while the edges were poorly lit. The project never took off (the owner of the light shop rage-quit club.liberty.asn due to having some very strong personal opinions about coilover brands. And I wasn’t sure it was worth pursuing a potential dead-end project - we didn’t know whether there was enough room, how it would all work etc).

… [𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐚𝐠𝐨] …

It was time. The BORSCHE’s mismatched yellowing RH headlight was getting out of hand. The light output from the Xenon HIDs had started to feel inadequate. My ’teeth’ still weren't lit properly. 😅 After putting out the feelers with iilumo (they’d already been great to deal with in previous encounters), they agreed to take on the project - modernise the 15 year old light, while keeping it looking OEM.

Total work looked something like this:
- Brand new lenses, inner chrome and washer covers from Subaru
- New high-output LED projectors (more on this in Part 2)
- Convert the ’tooth’ to an evenly lit DRL, while retaining the factory look and lens
..

Very limited room meant this was a tough little project. Thank you for your patience Alex and Meng, and for the awesome result! I know it’s “my” car, but I consider this your achievement - it’s the best attempt at OEM+ that I’ve seen. ❤️

And the Liberty headlight finally gets to shine the way it was intended to.
