Hi folks! Here's a major job undertaken recently on a Professional Southern Rock Lobster vessel.

Along with a few miscellaneous repairs, the owner wanted electrical lights and accessories able to be controlled from the skipper's position. The original location of the switching and circuit protection was terrible, with access and even viewing not possible from the tiller.

With available dash space limited, I was able to relocate all important/ most used switches and their associated breakers to an ideal location by the helm.

Considering required controls, space available, component sizes etc, I designed the new panel and as usual, worked with a local business to have it digitised and produced. I then built up the panel with the components and wired it to the boat.

Some circuits had to be shortened, others lengthened and others were new additions.

Power and earth requirements and all runs were dealt with, whilst maintaining as much tidiness in routing and mounting as possible on an existing wiring system, also tidying and securing a lot of stuff along the way.

I'm quite pleased with this result and happy to provide the improvement in comfort and convenience for my customer.👍😀

...And some more work I have done in the last few months. Fuel guage was erratic and intermittent on a forklift. Existing power outlets etc in a caravan needed improving and tidying up. Our own Fortuner needed a dual battery system. A Hilux that very nearly burnt due to an unprotected circuit which draped, melted and shorted onto the exhaust! 😬Lucky the owner was present and disconnected the battery. And some accessory fitting to make a farm buggy fit for duty- including the mounting/ label plates for dash switches that I design and get made. For anything like this give me a call! 0409035109🙂

Hi everybody! Here's a couple of photos of the most recent accessory fit up on a farm SXS buggy. We have almost the full swag on this job: Orange beacon for moving stock on roads, High beam light bar for much better, wider area front lighting, Rear light for shutting the gate & accessing tools in the tray, UHF to keep in contact, Interior light for ...well...lighting the interior!, a USB charger for all the modern day devices and there's a roof mounted spotlight to come for checking on the stock at night and to help with eradicating those pests on farm.

G'day all! It's been a while since I posted, so here's a bit of what I have been up to. In the last couple of months I have worked on a variety of vehicles - from vintage motorbikes to farm tractors and our own JAElec Rav4 in between!

The HVAC (Heater, Ventilation, Air Conditioning) photos show an air conditioner job on a Valtra tractor. Lots of pulling stuff apart there involved in repairs, but got it sorted. Those tractor cabs are hot houses without working A/C!!

The blue Rav4 is a JAElec vehicle which was also in need of Air Conditioning repairs. When out on a hot day, toiling away on customer site, it is just a big relief when it's time to leave-to hop in the car and cool off!

Then we have the Suzuki RV90 motorkike! This was a "it doesn't run, can you get it going?" job... Very unique older bike, which is much cooler now it runs!!

And here we have the high beam comparison, following on from the last video showing low beam.

Also, for vehicle owners desiring headlight improvements- before considering light source(globe) upgrades, the most common factor in dull headlights is the lens. Most vehicles today are equipped with plastic lens headlamps, which crack, haze or yellow with time and UV exposure.

No amount of light source improvement will overcome this root cause of light underperformance, again, all that will be achieved is dazzling oncoming traffic to a greater extent, as the light is being captured at the lens. Headlight lens refurbishment may be an option for mildly affected plastic, but headlight replacement will be needed for badly affected lights.

Keep up your extra care in the dull, wet conditions guys'n girls, safe driving🙂

G'day all! So we are again in the guts of winter, the time of year when we are all driving around with our headlights on- either for actually lighting the way, or to be seen on the road.

Are you being "flashed" by on coming vehicles and don't know why? (There appears to be no hazard ahead, your high beams are off etc) Well, it could be that your headlights are dazzling oncoming road users(on low beam). Maybe your headlights are adjusted incorrectly, maybe you are towing(which tilts your vehicle and headlamps upwards)or maybe your vehicle has been fitted with a headlamp light source that was not designed for the light.

LED headlight retrofits are in most cases, creating light patterns that are incorrect (and often dangerously dazzling for oncomers), and I am yet to see ANY that are in fact legal for road use.

Here is a headlight upgrade I done a while back using upgrade GLOBES. Customer's feedback was positive🙂

Hi everybody!

Subject: LED headlight "replacement globes".

These products have been an issue for some time, but recent encounters with oncoming vehicles fitted with these have led me to bring you some facts surrounding these products, with the goal of improving road safety through a bit of education.

Headlights are each designed with a particular globe to be fitted. These globes are manufactured to fine tolerances and standards in order to maintain the designed light pattern. When replacing with the correct globe, the same pattern will be produced.

When a globe gets replaced incorrectly(out of position/crooked) the light source(the globe) can not interact with the headlight reflector and lens how it was intended- therefore the pattern is not how it needs to be. This can, and often does result in light projected above the horizontal. This is most important in the Low Beam, the light that you are projecting towards other road users.

LED headlight "replacement globes, LED upgrades" (whatever name they are sold by) have a poor chance of replicating the identical light source to the globe they are replacing. So, like an incorrectly/crooked globe install, once again, in Low Beam applications, light is often directed/scattered above the horizontal, dazzling oncoming road users.

I am unaware of any LED headlight replacements that are a true swap out for the equivalent globe. In fact, all such products I have seen state "not ADR approved, for off road use only" or similar.

When you pull up in your driveway or yard at night, check this:

With your car level and about 5 meters from a flat surface(eg:shed wall)

Low Beam should be: light from the ground and up to the height of your headlight, and will also be horizontal across your shed.Older style/H4 lights can have a small"kick" of light to the LEFT (because we drive on the left, this does not dazzle the oncoming road user) more modern lights do not have this kick.

If your Low Beam is not as described, chances are, you're dazzling others!

High Beam: light everywhere- it is not a concern as high beam is not used approaching other road users.

There are other disadvantages to installing "LED headlight replacements",however, road safety is the priority here, so I'll leave it at that.

Note: I am not writing about genuine LED headlights/factory LED headlights, as those are designed from the ground up with those light sources in mind.

I hope this has been informative for a few readers.
