Ever wondered what the IF and VF in front of your tractor tyre size means?
Those big tractor tyres that look under-inflated aren’t a mistake… they’re IF/VF technology at work. 🚜
Are modern tractor tyres actually meant to look half flat? 🤔🚜
A lot of farmers see new tractors in the paddock and think the tyres look under-inflated.
But with IF (Increased Flexion) and VF (Very High Flexion) tyres, that softer look is actually how they’re designed to work.
These tyres have stronger, more flexible sidewalls, allowing them to carry heavy loads at much lower air pressure. When they flex, the tyre spreads out and creates a bigger footprint on the soil.
That bigger footprint means:
• Better traction when pulling hard
• Less wheel slip
• Less soil compaction
• Reduced stress on the tyre casing
Because the sidewall is designed to flex instead of staying rigid, it can also help reduce sidewall cracking over time, especially in heavy field work.
So if you see a modern tractor tyre that looks a bit soft in the paddock, chances are it’s doing exactly what it was designed to do.
