The most difficult colours to refinish are the ones that look simple at first.
Three-layer pearl whites are a good example. From a distance, the colour may just look white. Up close, there is much more happening beneath the surface.
These finishes are usually built in stages: a base colour, a pearl layer, and then a clear coat. The base gives the colour its foundation. The pearl layer adds depth, brightness and the subtle change you see as light moves across the panel. The clear coat then protects the finish and gives the paint its gloss.
That is why matching a pearl white finish takes more than just using the paint code. The way the material is mixed, applied, layered and checked can all affect how the final colour appears.
The aim is not just to make one panel look good on its own. It needs to sit naturally beside the surrounding panels, so the finish looks consistent across the vehicle.
Modern paintwork is a mix of process, precision and a careful eye for detail.
