When I decided to build a Savage oc3 for my club Fremantle I needed to build a top quality canoe on a minimum budget. People would think that a top quality build as with this build would have to be made with pre peg carbon, vacuum bagged, resin infused, honey combed or coremat sandwich construction etc etc. I used none of the above and only used chop strand glass and general purpose lay up resin and a 100 mm polystyrene strong back
that runs the length of the canoe, the polystyrene block gives the canoe positive buoyancy and incredible strength. The orange colour was identified and mixed by sight using about 6 different pigments. Two hundred hexagon shapes measured and marked out by hand for the artwork. To finish my daughter made up the Savage sticker in chrome and black vinyl. A very high quality build and finished to a very high standard,
on a very low budget, designed by David Fleet ( Oceanfleet Australia), and built in WA.
