Advanced Mechanic & Tuning Apprenticeship (Light Vehicle)

Garage101 is a 25 year established workshop specialising in full spectrum performance and mechanical of JDM but more specifically Nissan and Subaru. We have a small workshop in Osborne Park W.A. We provide parts, engine building and fabrication through to wiring, engine management and performance diagnostics along with custom mapping and dyno tuning.
There is no better place to gain experience and hone your skills than in a nose to tail performance workshop. The variety of tasks and constant problem solving make it a challenging but very educational and rewarding setting. To excel at this job, you cannot be lazy and must enjoy a challenge.
We are looking for an apprentice who is genuinely interested in mechanical, engineering and electronics. Someone who must know how things work and has an eye for detail. The candidate must have motivation and enthusiasm to learn their craft during and outside of work hours.
The reality is, our new apprentice will do all the basic tasks that entitled juniors think are too low for them, such as empty bins, sweeping up and making the odd coffee. However! after that, you will be putting cars on the dyno, setting up tuning equipment or cleaning and prepping engine parts for a forged build (among other things). If you learn fast and show dedication to building your skills, you will be carrying out work other apprentices only dream about. This will allow you to be far ahead of the curve and actually build a long term future in the industry.
You will never look at the clock, waiting for the day end, ever again!

We usually get many applications for apprenticeships, so we have made a checklist to help you determine if you are suitable BEFORE you apply. We need you to answer yes to most if not all of these items. If you seem to fit the bill, contact us with an introduction letter explaining a bit about yourself and why you think we would make a good partnership. Remember, this contact is all we have to judge you by (obviously) and if you are clear and to the point it makes our job much easier – which is your first task as our new apprentice (making our job easier)…..don’t stuff it up.
Garage101 Performance Apprentice Checklist
1. Should be between 17 and 21 years old to commence as a Junior apprentice. (Will consider mature age but only if a prime candidate)
2. Have license and transport
3. Live within 30 mins of Osborne Park
4. You must be genuinely interested in performance work. Not just since last week.
5. MUST be comfortable with computers and software.
6. Have solid fundamental understanding of engines and mechanical. If you don’t know what a piston looks like or where a camshaft would live in an engine then please do not apply until you do.
7. Know how to use hand tools and power tools. If you have never been taught to use a drill and angle grinder or don’t know what a then please learn and apply next time around.
8. Ideally living at home with parents so the apprentice wages don’t break you.
9. Must be a current Australian permanent resident – no exceptions.
10. Must be well spoken and able to hold a conversation with adults.
11. Must be well presented and prepared to remain that way (not just a 1 week effort)
12. Owning a Subaru or Nissan is not critical however it will add points especially if you are actively out in the scene.
Notes about the position
• Ideally we are looking to start someone immediately.
• Salary will always be minimum industry until some performance is reached. Your worth is entirely down to how much you contribute.
• Do NOT embellish or exaggerate your experience in your application as it won’t be appreciated.
• 38 hour week. Some OT available while skills are low, more later.
• Tools not necessary for the first 12 months.
• Test period of 24 hours (3 days work) required before we will approve a candidate.
• Trial period of 2 months after that before apprenticeship will commence. Trial time will be applied to your apprentice term.
• We will consider a first year who wants to transfer across but not 3rd or 4th year without a very good application letter.
• No, you won’t be tuning anything until you know how it all works!
