This National Volunteer Week, we want to shine a light on what surf lifesaving really is - one of Australia's great community service traditions.
Every weekend and public holiday from October through March, our volunteers are on the beach before you arrive and still there when you leave. At Sorrento Beach and Hillarys Marina, rain or shine, season after season.
And it doesn't stop there. Our members play a leading role in Abalone Patrol - protecting the marine environment along our coastline year-round.
This summer, that commitment added up to 10,245 patrol hours - the first time in the club's history we've crossed that milestone. Behind that number: 1,047 preventive actions, 115 first aid cases attended, and two rescues. A contribution to this community valued at over $300,000.
These are your neighbours, your colleagues, your kids' friends. They give up their summer weekends and public holidays not for payment or recognition - but because someone has to be there.
To our 378 patrol-qualified lifesavers and every volunteer who supports them - this season is yours. Thank you.
