So whilst the Evo motor is away getting built, the Yaris is scratching the itch it was purchased for.

After meeting with a kerb in Bunbury, a pair of replacement rims were purchased tyres refitted thanks to John Fowler Autosport and the front guard was fixed thanks to Joe and the team at Panelworx

An oil cooler was fitted thanks to Frank at Fabrication And Performance who modified the front bar to enable mounting.

Then over to AMS Racing to check the alignment, before entering Tarmac Events WA December Rallysprint.
With a big field of cars, the stock GR didn’t disgrace itself and we finished in the same position as we started - 21st.

I must admit it is something to drive to an event and drive home.. although it may not be up the pointy end and anywhere near as fast as the Evo, what it lacks in speed it makes up for in reliability and comfort (namely AC)!

Bring on January!

Another great weekend away down south at the Tarmac Events WA Bunbury Sprint.

Went in with new car, new wheels and new tyres.. came out back on the old wheels with a couple of battle scars thanks to one of the infamous kerbs! Nothing too major however, will be easily fixed and back out soon enough thanks to Joe and the team at Panelworx in Bunbury.

The Yaris is a very different beast to the Evo, with less than half the horsepower in its stock form (at the moment 😉), but what it lacks in power it makes up for with air conditioning and reliability - it is a fun thing to drive.
We ended up finishing 31st amongst 100 odd starters, with a few mid pack battles on to keep things interesting!

As always it was a brilliantly run event, thanks to all officials and volunteers and for Ross and Jan for creating this event that is such a blast to run in. It’s a great weekend away with racing mates and is without doubt the highlight on the calendar.

Thanks also to my great mate Jason Humble for again making the trip over from Sydney to sit alongside and have some laughs!

First outing in the Yaris at Tarmac Events WA City Sprint.

Managed to get 6th outright, with half a second separating 4th, 5th and 6th.
Impressive for a stock car on some 5+ year old worn semi slicks. Will be keen to see what it can do with some better tyres, a decent alignment and some more seat time to get to know it!

Next major outing will be Bunbury in it as the Evo motor won’t be ready.
Whilst disappointing, I won’t complain about having the AC cranking whilst staging!!

Thanks to Cochrane Photography for the photo!

Subaru parts on the Evo?? I feel dirty..

After seeing the monster that is SJ 1000 at Goldrush hollclimb in Queensland last month, I stole his intercooler tank idea and promptly ordered one to replace the mini beer keg in the engine bay that feeds the intercooler spray bar.

In its place will go this shiny header tank to keep the cooling system in check.

Spent the weekend dressing the spare motor getting it ready to go in the hole.
Decided to run it as wet sump to save pulling balance shafts.

Plan is it will do Malaga and maybe Bunbury, we are waiting on when the big motor pistons arrive from in the US. Then we see if the stroker can get rebuilt/fitted/tuned and tested in time!

Picked up the Evo yesterday from Fabrication And Performance where they have been plumbing up the hard lines to the Bosch ABS unit - super neat work done by the team utilising the custom brackets supplied by Chriso’s Customs and parts supplied by 909 Motorsport

The custom 3D printed firewall grommet for the shifter cable was an especially nice touch!

Back on the Mustang 🐎

First stop from picking up was to get the rollcage and seat rails compliant and certified, which is now done ✅
Today was blasting the new steel with primer ready for its colour.

Shout out to the legend Brad Stacy Fabrication for slotting it in last minute!

Back to regular Evo related programming 🏎️

New billet front uprights just arrived from the US to suit the later CT bearings and front driveshafts.

Big thanks to both SSB Designs for the uprights, and ERS Evolution Racing Spares for the driveshafts and bearings!

Welcome to the stable - Kermit!

Since I saw the original racing back in the day at Wanneroo Raceway as a 10yr old, I’ve always been a big fan of the livery and shape - when this came up I just couldn’t say no.

Plan is to build as a tarmac rally car in Classic class and run in Tarmac Events WA, with assistance from Advanced Motorsport Solutions and Auto Sport Electronics as always!

The fox is out of the bag 😉
