From when we arrive to when we wave goodbye, our service takes about 60 minutes for petrol vehicles, and about 80 minutes for diesel vehicles. We can also detox LPG and hybrid engines. m the combustion process. There are no chemical by-products or hazardous waste. HOW DOES IT WORK? We insert a pipe into the air hose just after the air filter box and MAF sensor (if possible). As the car naturally draws air into the engine, it also draws in the pure oxygen and hydrogen gas generated by our machine. Firstly, the increased oxygen levels heighten the combustion temperature but also shorten the combustion (so that the overall engine temps don't increase). This in turn literally fries oily residues away leaving the hardened carbon that the hydrogen can then interact with. Secondly, believe it or not, due to its high flash point hydrogen does not combust inside the engine which means it can do its job right through the air side of the engine. It is a universal fact that when carbon comes into contact with hydrogen in hot atmospheres it reverts to its gas form and the two combine as hydrocarbons - your everyday exhaust gas. This then simply exits the exhaust safely. So it's literally reversing the process of how the carbon built up in the first place. Such a service used little and often will prevent excessive build-up of carbon and other deposits, and in the process restore small amounts of engine efficiency (only what is lost from carbon build-up) and stop excessive wear on expensive engine components such as EGR valves. When used in the correct procedure on an engine that isn't overly clogged it'll remove enough carbon to restore efficiency and prevent excessive build-up (causing engine inefficiency) over the next 16-20k kilometres for most vehicle types. But there will always be black oxidations and residues left. As long as what's left isn't restrictive over the specified lifespan of the service’s benefit, then the job is done effectively. Hydrogen based carbon cleaning works as long as you are not expecting it to miraculously cure clogged engines. It will in these circumstances restore lost efficiency in the engine and prevent excessive wear and tear on engine components. WILL IT REMOVE ALL THE CARBON FROM MY EGR VALVE OR INTAKE MANIFOLD? Our process relies on heat + gas flow and will only react with carbon, not oil or grease. So, it is unlikely to clean the EGR effectively as the gas stays too cold in this part of the engine. In saying that, an engine carbon clean prior to a manual clean can make the carbon easier to remove as it tends to soften it a bit. When it comes to the manifold, again there is not much heat here but the carbon also has a tendency to be covered in oil (courtesy of the PCV valve). Since it doesn't get hot enough to burn the oil off, the hydrogen isn't able to react with the carbon here. So that's why a manual clean will always get better results here too. So our engine carbon clean service is most effective post-combustion because we need heat for the hydrogen to work. That means it works on the hot side of the turbo, engine internals and the exhuast. Because it is hot in these parts the oil is able to be ‘fried away’ so to speak, leaving the exposed carbon for the hydrogen to react with. A manual clean will always get better results with the EGR and intake manifold. Once you’ve done all that hard work, that’s where we can help - by preventing the carbon from building up to that extent again. WILL I NOTICE A DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE, POWER AND / OR FUEL EFFICIENCY? This is a tricky question and depends on a huge number of factors, some of which are: the age of the car, condition of the engine, quality of fuel or petrol used, kms on the clock, condition of the engine components, amount of carbon build-up that has already occurred, how the car is driven - long journeys v stop-start driving around town, aggressively v driving Miss Daisy. Regardless, removing even some of the carbon build-up is going to allow your engine to breathe better, and therefore improve performance, power, efficiency and lower emissions. Even customers whose cars are brand new understand the impact carbon is eventually going to have on their engines. They are happy to invest a small amount now by using our service as a preventative, rather than dishing out wads of cash further down the line. To use an analogy, it is like going to the dentist. We pay a small amount regularly to have check-ups and remove plaque from our teeth in order to prevent bigger problems later. We may not notice anything when we leave the dentist, but we know it's going to be better for us in the long run! HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET A CARBON CLEAN DONE? We think once a year should be fine, or every 15,000 – 20,000kms. WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO GET IT DONE? If you can, time your carbon clean before your next service / oil change. To perform the clean we need:
1) room to back the van up to the front of your vehicle, or park next to it
2) engine warmed up (ideally driven)
3) access to an electrical socket within 25m (we carry 1 x 25m extension reels) or if not, we bring our generator with us. Booked in. Will message you the day before as a reminder and to check all is OK and again on the day when setting off from the previous appointment with a better ETA.
