This is not how you stop a rear air con pod from leaking.

Smearing sealant around the outside might hide the leak for a while, but it doesn’t fix a failed seal—and it can make it harder to see what’s going on underneath.

The proper repair is to remove the pod, clean away the old sealant, check the roof and mounting surface, then refit it with the correct seal.

If your rear air con pod is leaking, get the cause sorted before adding another layer of silicone

A workshop called me in to help with a vehicle that had lost drive.

After carrying out some checks, I traced the problem to a failed dual-mass flywheel. Once the fault was confirmed, I completed the repair and got the vehicle back on the road.

Update on the diesel heater job I shared earlier.

The heater has now been refitted, with the fuel line routed clear of the tailshaft. The pump, exhaust, wiring and controller have all been sorted as part of the repair.

Seems to be timing belt season — this Toyota Prado was coming up to 300,000 km and was due for its belt service.

It’s not just the belt that gets replaced; the tensioners and idler pulleys are part of the job too.

The water pump wasn’t leaking, but it was showing signs it was close. We changed it before it became a problem.

LDV has certainly changed a bit over the years 😅

The first photo is the sort of LDV I used to work on years ago in the UK… fast forward to today and I’m working on this LDV T60 MAX.

This one was in for a service and timing belt replacement, keeping on top of the scheduled maintenance before it turns into a much bigger repair.

Quite a difference between the old LDV vans I remember working on and what the brand is producing today!

This Poor lady 😬 She wanted a diesel heater fitted and, because she lives around two hours away, chose someone local.

Once they completed the job, she set off and the heater’s fuel pipe—which had been pushed into the fuel tank filler neck—caught on the tailshaft and was ripped out and now hanging on the exhaust pipe. So she got in touch after seeing that I had loan vehicles available, so she could still get around while I checked over the installation, which im glad she did ....

This is what I found:

The heater was in a poor position and wasn’t secure.

The controller wasn’t level or in a good position.

The wiring was poorly fitted.

The fuel pipe had been pushed into the filler neck and left hanging low enough to catch on the tailshaft.

Before booking work, check reviews, ask for recommendations, and don’t be afraid to ask to see examples of previous jobs. A little checking beforehand can help avoid having to pay to put things right later. 🙈
