Fair winds John on your new adventure.

On 27 August 2026, sailor and author John Passmore will depart Plymouth aboard his Rival 32, Samsara, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Sir Francis Chichester's pioneering solo circumnavigation. John's voyage will follow Chichester's route and celebrate one of the greatest achievements in British sailing history.

John is a highly experienced single-handed sailor who has completed multiple solo Atlantic crossings and has lived aboard Samsara since 2017.

To mark his departure, and with the support of the Royal Western Yacht Club , a flotilla of local boats is being assembled to es**rt Samsara out of Plymouth Sound on the morning of 27 August 2026.

Everyone is invited to make this a memorable send-off for John by gathering at 1000-1030 between Devils Point and the Hoe to es**rt John on his adventure.

The aim is to create a memorable farewell for John as he begins this remarkable voyage, while also celebrating Plymouth's proud maritime heritage.
