Group 2 virgin base oil is a term that comes up often in lubricant specifications. Here's what it means in plain terms and why it's relevant to product selection.

Base oils are classified by Groups I through V based on their refining process and chemical properties. Group 2 is produced through hydroprocessing, which removes impurities and results in a chemically stable, consistent base. "Virgin" means it's refined from crude and has not been used before.
