Bryce contacted me about tuning his MK1 Golf with a 2L non cross flow engine fitted with Jenvey ITBs and an electronic actuator, and a Haltech ecu to control it all.

I balanced the throttles and found it genuinely straightforward to tune, without the usual intricacies of an ITB setup. I was also blown away by the smoothness of the power curve, something you usually don’t get.

After taking it for a road test I was also very impressed, 75kw might not sound like much but it makes very good broad torque and drives incredible.

A very cool car.

So it turns out I didn’t take any other pictures bar the dyno graph, whoops.

Jean chatted to me about wiring his RB25 neo de+t converted R31 skyline, and we decided that I would provide him with the combination I do all too often:
Link G4X Monsoon, CAN Lambda and a custom made engine loom and properly upgraded fuel pump wiring.

Proven combo.

He wasn’t chasing power at all just reliability, but I tuned it for higher boost also while it was in just so if he does want to turn it up at a later date he can without bringing it back.

Setup as follows:
Standard rb25de neo
Highflowed 21u turbo with 45mm wastegate off turbine housing
1000cc injectors
98 fuel

205kw on 7psi boost
244kw on 12psi I think it was

Dom built a fresh TB45 for his patrol with a brand new turbo setup also. Powered by a Haltech ecu, it had some great wiring and an individual ignition coil conversion done locally and then came to me to be tuned.

The thing made some impressive power through gigantic 35s, an easy 248kw at the wheels at 16psi. I wasn’t keen to push it further due to lack of information on the exact specs of the build so we left it there

This r33 was one I have actually tuned and done some work on before a few years back. It has changed hands since, has been plagued with electrical issues and sat as a result for quite a while.

Finding out that the ecu it had in it was water damaged and causing a lot of problems, and that the company that made it no longer exists gave only one real option: new ecu.

The loom was in pretty poor condition near the ecu as many of these are due to various extras people have poorly added and removed over the years, so we opted to not use a plug and play ecu, instead wiring in a Link Monsoon ecu and CAN lambda and repairing the wiring at the same time.

This proved to do the trick with the car making 234kw at 15 psi on 98 fuel, and to top it off now it also doesn’t randomly die when driving

Due to the very early arrival of our baby daughter, RM will be out of commission for the next few weeks. If you have a booking already the appointments will stand otherwise please leave a message and I’ll get back to you once things settle down into a bit of a rhythm.

Thanks for the understanding!

Shiva brought his e36 to me sick of trying to get it running and having constant issues with diagnosing problems on the standard ecu.

He had been tossing up whether to do a 6cyl swap or a turbo conversion and I suggested a turbo may yield better results, and we opted to install an ecu and injectors in preparation for the future.

I wired in a Link Monsoon ecu and can lambda module, converted it to coil on plug using R8 coils at the same time, and installed some upgraded injectors at the same time also.

The goal was to keep it looking pretty much dead standard for the time being, however I did tune it with the factory airbox removed for a bit extra power, yielding 82kw at the wheels

Tauri wired a Link Xtreme into his “street car” r32 and scrambled to assemble it in a handful of days.

I was expecting a lot more issues but he pulled through (surprisingly), and we managed to get the rb20 singing, with the hks 2540 on it making 245kw on e85 just in time for a thrash around track.

Dan’s Supra wouldn’t turn on:
He got the ecu repaired professionally and it still didn’t want to run.
He replaced a bunch of parts and it still wouldn’t run.

I said I could fix it with an aftermarket ecu which would actually give me real usable information to diagnose, to which he agreed.

I wired in a Link Storm ecu in a piggyback configuration with the stock ecu (leaving the stock ecu for auto trans control and some other things) and very quickly figured out that under cranking the regulated 5v output of the standard ecu was playing funny buggers and jumping around causing nothing to work properly. No dramas, the Link now supplies the 5v now and it starts first turn of the key and all functions work like standard.

Can’t wait til the engine bay looks as pretty as the exterior of the car!

Bring on the hate, we all know I love a good alloytec nowadays and Ben yet again delivered with his twin turbo LE0 in an 86 of all things powered by nothing but the best, a Link ECU.

Let’s just say first one didn’t go so well, snapping a rod at 3000rpm and smoking us out of the shop. Let’s just say it had pre-existing damage hey?

48 hour turnaround time and it was back, this time with a stock unopened VE LE0 instead. We had to replace the lower timing chain tensioner as it was stuck fully compressed, which a washer fixed. 10psi and some mucking around to stop boost going to the moon, and we’ve got 285kw. And maybe some ghost cam action also, it has a pretty sexy idle.

I tell you what, he used every bit of that 285kw for a full day of drifting alongside the VE from our previous post, and will soon be fitting some upgraded parts in this one too to see how much more fun we can have

Moe’s E36 with a turbo converted M50 engine came to me for a tune with something called an RM Primis ecu. This turned out to be absolute and utter trash, simply the worst ecu I’ve ever dealt with.

He decided to go with a Link plug and play which I supplied and installed, much better in every possible way. A couple hours on the dyno later and it made (an unfortunately fairly laggy) 250kw at 19psi running 98 fuel. We turned it back to 240kw at 17 and left it there.
