Dull and Fading paint? Especially on your red car? 🚗 Why do red cars seem to fade or Oxidise more than most other colours?
This is because the wavelength in the colour red are the lowest energy of visible light. So for it to appear red to us it’s absorbing much more energetic wavelengths from the sun, which in turn causes more aggressive degeneration of the paint’s molecular bonds.
In simpler terms, the suns UV rays are breaking down the molecules in the paint. Which then causes the paint to reflect less light and energy, causing a duller and faded look.
There is no real way to stop this from happening as it is a chemical reaction.
But you can protect and prolong the condition of your paint and protect it from happening sooner. ( This applies to all paint not just red)
HOW TO PREVENT OXIDISING & PROTECT YOUR PAINT WORK
🔸 Keep you’re car clean. Chemicals from the weather or environment can cause damage to your paint. (Salt, animal droppings, acid rain etc)
🔸Keep it in the shade. Obviously the suns UV rays and the elements cause damage to your paint. So where possible keep it under cover.
🔸Protective coatings. Especially If you can’t keep your car under any form of cover. There are a range of protective coating on the market that will help prolong the life of your cars paint work. Some examples are vinyl film wrap, paint sealants and ceramic coatings. These coatings can be quite pricey, but will last from 2-5+ years.
🔸Wax it. A lot of car waxes have been specially designed to not only make your car shine, but they act like a sunscreen. Adding a protective layer to your paint to stop these nasty elements contaminating your paint.
Although this is the cheapest and easiest way to protect your paint. It will only last a few months. So will need to be applied regularly.
