“No way!! A stethoscope belongs with a doctor, not a mechanic!” 😲🔧

Well… not always!

Before computers could diagnose engine problems, experienced mechanics actually listened to engines using stethoscopes.

And if you look closely at this old photo of Peter — aka Captain Corolla — you’ll see one hanging around his neck. The best part? He still uses it today! 😄

Peter certainly knows what he’s listening for.

Before becoming Captain Corolla, Peter was a lead mechanic with Bib Stillwell’s F1 Maserati Team. He later worked at Perfectune, one of Victoria’s leading names in high-performance tuning and diagnostics.

Perfectune was famous for Yella Terra Heads and its use of chassis dynos, for which it was an authorised distributor. Even Wheels Magazine sent cars there for evaluation.

As Peter says, an engine is a lot like the human body — if you know what you’re listening for, you can hear when something isn’t right. 👂🔧

That sort of hands-on diagnostic knowledge is becoming pretty rare these days.

And yes… Peter was young once! 😉

*** Totally unexpected yet humbling experience ***

Last friday at the end of another successful week providing The Kerolla Nation with parts , Peter was picking up his seafood pizza at his local favourite pizza parlour in Dingley Village.

He recognised one of his many female clients at the counter (for whome Peter had restored a KE 36 4 Door Station Wagon) on the phone speaking to another enthusiast when she said " you'd better speak to Captain Corolla then"

With that Peter leaned over and said " would you like me to speak to him now "

It seems like the word has spread far and wide that access to the Captain's precious spares are on notice, and he is very grateful for all the orders, enquiries and compliments.

They say that there is no price for good memories, and this is especially true for the last customer I worked with.

His dad used to own a 77 KE 30 and they cherished the good times in it.

What do you do when you want to re-live those memories? Yup, for one, you buy one (in the image, sold by peter), get it fixed by panel be**er, and pickup your dad from the airport to surprise him. :)

Hello everyone! 👋

After over 50 years as a trusted mechanic, and bringing joy to over 50,000+ car owners, Captain Kerolla is closing down his garage to focus on other joys of life :)

For those who do not know, Peter Robinson's journey as mechanic is a very interesting one, with below highlights:
- Started as apprentice in 1957 with BS Stilwill and Co.
- Spent 4 years being F1 Mechanic (Maserati
and Cooper Climax and Aston Martin) 🏎️
- Got invited by Stirling Moss to join his mechanical team.
- Worked with Perfectune ( http://www.perfectune.com.au ), the team that launched Yella Terra, Australia’s leading brand of high performance racing parts.
- Has been his own boss for over 40 years with great enthusiasm for all things Toyota corolla KE.

While every good thing has to come to an end but not this one just yet, since we have great news for KE corolla enthusiast 🥳

Peter is not called Captain Kerolla for no reason. Not only does he have great passion for these machines, but he also has a huge collection of un-used, brand new parts for different KE corolla variations.

🔒 Secure Location: Located in Oakleigh South, inside a two-story brick warehouse of the downstairs automotive workshop.
📏 Space Height: Available storage space has a height of 2.5 meters.

🕒 Access: Access is available with 24-hour notice.
