Beshy’s stunning Vegas Yellow Audi Gen 2 R8 V10 in Brisbane sitting on a set of 19" BBS LM in Diamond Black and this is exactly why the LM remains one of the most timeless wheel designs ever made.

This set started with fully refinished genuine BBS LM centres, made by BBS Japan and sourced directly from Japan, then rebuilt into a custom 3-piece setup using mirror-polished outer lips, brushed silver barrels and Class 10.9 high tensile steel hardware finished in gold.

The result keeps all the character and heritage of the original BBS LM, but adds a much more bespoke, handcrafted finish that suits the R8 perfectly.

The second-generation R8 already has incredible proportions - wide, low, mid-engined and powered by one of the last great naturally aspirated V10s. Pair that with the classic BBS LM and you get a combination that feels completely different from the usual modern supercar setup.

The refinished BBS centres bring that unmistakable LM identity, while the mirror-polished lips and brushed silver barrels add depth and contrast against the Vegas Yellow bodywork. The gold Class 10.9 hardware finishes it off with just enough detail without overpowering the car.

That’s what makes the BBS LM so special.

Originally inspired by BBS motorsport heritage, the LM has managed to stay relevant across generations of performance cars. Put them on a 90s BMW, a modern Porsche, an A90 Supra or something as exotic as a Gen 2 R8 V10, and somehow they still look completely at home.

Modern wheel designs often rely on sharp lines, extreme concavity and oversized diameters to make an impact. The LM doesn’t need any of that.

We're excited to unveil another bespoke build from the AirParts workshop – Custom 20" BBS LM-R 3-Piece Build for Brendon from Adelaide, built specifically for his stunning BMW F82 M4.

Finished in an aggressive 5x120 staggered setup – 20x9.5 front and 20x11.5 rear, this set was engineered to sit perfectly on air suspension, delivering that show-stopping stance when aired out, while maintaining proper fitment when aired up.

Starting with genuine BBS LM-R centres, we transformed them into a bespoke 3-piece masterpiece using forged 6061 aerospace-grade aluminium lips and barrels, finished with high-polished mirror lips, precision-machined barrels, and assembled using Class 10.9 high tensile hardware to ensure both strength and timeless aesthetics.

The result is exactly what the LM-R was born to be – motorsport inspired, yet perfectly at home on a modern street build.

The BBS LM-R was introduced by BBS Japan as the spiritual successor to the legendary BBS LM. While the LM paid tribute to BBS's 24 Hours of Le Mans victories with its timeless mesh design, the LM-R took that heritage and evolved it for a new generation of performance cars.

With its split Y-spoke mesh, deeper spoke profile and more aggressive styling, the LM-R retains unmistakable BBS DNA while offering a stronger motorsport presence. It quickly became one of the most sought-after forged wheels for BMW M cars, Porsche, Mercedes-AMG and other high-performance European platforms, perfectly blending classic BBS elegance with modern performance.

Today, many LM-R specifications have been discontinued by BBS Japan, making genuine centres increasingly difficult to source. That's exactly why we travel throughout Japan searching for these rare gems, so they can continue living on through bespoke AirParts builds.

Some projects are special. Others make history.

We're proud to unveil what we believe is the world's first Custom 20" BBS Super RS 3-Piece Build for the B9 Audi RS4, built in a 20x10.5 square setup for Tim from Brisbane.

This wasn't built from an off-the-shelf wheel.

It all started with a set of 18" genuine discontinued BBS Super RS centres that we painstakingly sourced from Japan. From there, we completely re-engineered the wheels by triple-stepping them into 20", pairing them with forged 6061 high-polished mirror finish lips, gloss black barrels, and assembling everything using Class 10.9 high tensile gold hardware.

The result is a wheel that looks like it could have rolled straight out of the BBS factory, only bigger, bolder and built specifically for one of Audi's finest performance wagons.

The story of the BBS RS began in the early 1980s and quickly became one of the most iconic wheels ever produced. Hagerty described the BBS RS as “often imitated, but never duplicated”, and for good reason. It brought three-piece motorsport wheel technology to the street, with a design that became instantly recognisable through its cross-spoke face, exposed hardware, stepped lips and timeless motorsport presence.

The original BBS RS used cast aluminium centres and was predominantly seen in 14" to 17" sizes. It became famous not just because of the look, but because it represented something different at the time, modular construction, real motorsport influence, and the ability to build a wheel with the right width, offset and fitment for serious cars.

As technology evolved, BBS introduced the Super RS, carrying over the unmistakable RS DNA but taking the engineering to another level. Unlike the original cast-centre RS, the Super RS uses forged aluminium centres, offering improved strength, rigidity and weight performance. Produced in larger 18" to 20" sizes, the Super RS became the modern evolution of the RS family, same legendary soul, more advanced construction.

Unfortunately, many BBS Super RS specifications have now been discontinued. BBS no longer manufactures these centres, meaning once the remaining genuine sets disappear, they're gone forever.

That's exactly why projects like this matter.

At AirParts Auto Trading Concept, we don't just sell wheels—we preserve automotive heritage. We travel across Japan sourcing rare, discontinued genuine BBS centres and give them a new life through bespoke engineering, allowing these legendary designs to live on for another generation.

This build is the perfect example. Taking a genuine discontinued 18" forged BBS Super RS, transforming it into a custom 20" triple-stepped 3-piece masterpiece, while preserving the heritage that made the RS name legendary.

A Big Thank You to Marty and Mighty Car Mods

We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to build this set of custom 19” BBS LM in Brushed Clear for Marty and Mighty Car Mods, and to see them fitted as part of the transformation of his Mercedes-Benz W213 E43 AMG wagon that is not available in Australia.

The BBS LM is one of the most iconic forged wheels ever made, with its motorsport heritage, timeless mesh design, and unmistakable stepped lip profile. For this build, we wanted to keep the finish clean, classy and OEM+ while still giving the E43 a wagon much stronger presence.

Back in Oct’23, we had the honour of supplying this set of discontinued 19” RAYS TE37SL in Pressed Graphite to our mate Sean (23_mkv), fitted locally in Sydney on his TOYOTA A90 Supra MKV, and it absolutely transformed the car. The stance, the concave face, and that subtle machined lip, it’s one of those setups that have zero dead angle no matter where you stare at them.

RAYS Engineering proved to the world that a simple six-spoke can become an icon. The TE37 was first released in 1996, and it’s still the benchmark because it wasn’t built to follow trends, it was built to perform. What sets it apart is how RAYS forges it. While many “forged” wheels today start as a forged blank then rely heavily on CNC machining to create the final shape, TE37 is formed through a staged die-forging approach that progressively shapes the wheel closer to its final form. That means less machining, better grain flow, and stronger structure where it matters. RAYS uses 6061 aircraft-grade aluminium and tunes its material recipe for strength and durability, a big reason Volk wheels hold their reputation on track and street alike with racing in its DNA.

The TE37SL (Super Lap) takes the classic formula and trims it down further, it was designed to shave roughly ~400g off the benchmark 18x10.5 compared with a standard TE37, achieved through additional cutting and material reduction in key areas like the hub, while keeping the rigidity needed for the most demanding environment, including track abuse. In this 19” setup, they’re extremely light at 9.21kg (front) and 9.37kg (rear), and JWL+R Spec 2 certified, meaning they meet some of the toughest performance wheel standards out there.

Pressed Graphite is an iconic TE37SL finish, and this 19” spec is one of the very few forged monoblocks that gives you that “polished lip” look through its machined lip detail, without adding the weight penalty you’d normally get from 2-piece or 3-piece hardware. Add the subtle concavity and the aggressive, functional offsets, and you’ve got a set that’s period-correct and purpose-built. This spec is perfect for Toyota A90 Supra MKV, BMW G8x M3/M4, and BMW G2x/G3x platforms, and it’s also one of the most sought-after sizes because it is fully discontinued, meaning money can't buy them new from Rays anymore.

Every set starts with genuine BBS centres sourced from Japan, fully verified and rebuilt in Sydney, then paired with forged 6061 aluminium lips and barrels for strength, durability and reduced unsprung weight. Offsets are calculated specifically for your chassis to achieve a dialled-in, no-compromise fitment, while you choose the finishes for centres, lips, barrels and hardware to bring your exact vision to life.

Fun fact, BBS Japan has never manufactured LM-R in 20x9.5 +15 and 20x11.5 +37. So if BBS doesn’t make them, we will make them for you. This is exactly what our program is about, taking genuine BBS DNA and tailoring it to the exact spec your chassis deserves.

𝐓𝐄𝟑𝟕 𝐭𝐨 𝐓𝐄𝟎𝟑𝟕 𝟔𝟎𝟔𝟏 – 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲

RAYS lit the fuse in 1996 with the TE37, the six-spoke forged icon that defined lightweight strength. “TE” stands for Touring Evolution, and “37” is the magic number behind the 3.7 kg weight target in the OG 15×6 original prototype. It became the six-spoke forged icon of an era.

Fast-forward to 2017, RAYS unveiled the TE037 DURA (A7075 duralumin) and, about six months later, began development of this very unique wheel, the TE037 6061 – a lighter, more accessible evolution using aerospace-grade 6061 forged aluminium with five-spokes machined relief holes and end pockets. By 2022, TE037 6061 was discontinued, making clean sets like this genuine unicorns you can no longer buy new.

This set of Rays Volk Racing TE037 6061 weighs just 8.7 kg (front) and 8.9 kg (rear), pushing the benchmark for lightweight forged wheels even further. For comparison, the already super-light Volk Racing TE37 Ultra M-Spec in the same spec comes in at 9.53 kg (front) and 10.43 kg (rear), meaning the TE037 6061 still undercuts an industry favourite on the scales.
