Some builds are about the wheels, some builds are about the car, and some mean a little more because of the person behind them.
This set of Custom 19" BBS LM 3-Piece wheels in Diamond Black was built for our long-time ///Mate Benny Ben Ng here in Sydney, someone weโve known for around a decade, all the way back to the days when he was rowing his own gears in the legendary high-revving BMW M V8 E92 M3 with three pedals. ๐
Of course, somewhere along the way Benny decided to go to the dark side with an 8V Audi RS3 ๐ turbo five-cylinder noises, quattro launches and all.
But eventually, he found his way back home.
And today, Benny is back in the ///M camp with an F80 M3 Competition.
For this build, we started with genuine BBS LM centres sourced from Japan, fully refinished in the factory Diamond Black finish and paired with Class 10.9 high tensile gold hardware for that perfect contrast. The wheels were then finished with mirror-polished outer lips and brushed aluminium barrels, with the icing on the cake being a set of genuine BBS LM red centre caps with gold lettering. Custom converted into a proper 40-bolt 3-piece configuration, every detail was carefully crafted to perfection to suit the wide arches of the F80 M3, finished in 5x120, 19x9.5 +20 front and 19x10.5 +30 rear.
And thatโs exactly why the BBS LM works so well here.
The LM has always had that rare ability to suit completely different generations of BMW M cars. It looks just as natural on an E36 or E46 as it does on an E9x, F8x or even the latest G8x. The design never needs to shout, the classic mesh face, polished lip and unmistakable BBS proportions do all the talking.
Finished in Diamond Black, this set gives Bennyโs F80 just the right balance between classic and modern. The darker centre brings out the aggressive lines of the Competition, while the polished outer sections keep that signature LM look unmistakably BBS.
Thereโs also something fitting about seeing Bennyโs journey through three very different performance eras.
From the naturally aspirated, 8,400rpm S65 V8 and manual gearbox of the E92 M3, to the brutal five-cylinder turbo punch and quattro grip of the 8V RS3, and now back to rear-wheel-drive ///M territory with the F80 M3 Competition.
Different flavours, different personalities, but clearly the BMW ///M blood was still there all along. ๐
And after knowing Benny since the E92 days, being able to build a set of custom LMs for his current M3 makes this one a little more special for us.
