🚤 TOP 10 SAFETY TIPS FOR BOATING 🌊
Whether you’re heading out for a quick cruise, a fishing trip or a weekend on the water, a little preparation can make a BIG difference.
🦺 1. Wear a life jacket
Make sure everyone onboard has a correctly fitted PFD and knows where they are.
📱 2. Carry a reliable way to call for help
Keep your phone protected from water and carry the appropriate marine communication equipment for your trip.
⛽ 3. Check your fuel
Don’t just plan for the trip out, make sure you have enough fuel to get back, with a reserve.
🌦️ 4. Check the weather
Conditions can change quickly. Check the forecast before you leave and keep an eye on it while you’re out.
🔦 5. Carry the right safety gear
Flares, torch, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, anchor and other required equipment should be onboard and in good working order.
🧭 6. Know where you’re going
Have a navigation plan and make sure your charts/GPS are up to date.
👀 7. Keep a proper lookout
Stay alert for other boats, swimmers, rocks, markers and changing conditions.
🍺 8. Never drink and drive
Alcohol and boating don’t mix. Stay sober and make responsible decisions on the water.
🔧 9. Give your boat a pre-trip check
Check the engine, battery, bilge, steering, lights and safety equipment before leaving the marina.
📣 10. Tell someone your plans
Let someone know where you’re going, when you expect to return and what boat you’re travelling in.
🌊 BONUS TIP: Keep your hull clean! A fouled hull can reduce performance and fuel efficiency, and nobody wants to spend more time at the fuel dock than on the water! 😉
